People often express reluctance to wear hearing aids, fearing they'll be noticeable to others. But let's set the record straight!👂

Gone are the days of bulky, whistling devices from over a decade ago. Today's hearing aids are sleek, discreet, and often nearly invisible to the untrained eye! 🌟

As audiologists, we believe constantly asking "what" and "huh" is far more noticeable than any hearing aid. 😉 Don't let concerns about appearance hold you back from experiencing the joy of clear, effortless hearing!

Self-care is not an expense, it’s an investment. 🎉

I like to think the same when it comes to hearing aids. In fact, hearing better is an investment in your connection to the world around you.

What’s one activity you’re missing out on because of hearing difficulties?

POV: “Everyone mumbles these days. No one speaks clearly!”

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but if this is you…. you are probably hearing the low frequencies of speech, but you’re having difficulties hearing the high pitch sounds. 🗣

This is the most common type of hearing loss I diagnose. This type of hearing loss allows you to hear the vowels but not the consonant sounds.

Take the word “thirsty” for example. You might hear the “i”, “r”, and “y” pretty well. However, it may be hard for you to understand the “th” and “s” sounds.

If this is you or someone in your family, it might be time to get in for a hearing test!

Think hearing loss is just a natural part of aging? Think again!👂While it's true that age can play a role, any audiologist will tell you it's not the whole story.

☝️We've seen patients in their 80s and 90s with excellent hearing, as well as those with significant hearing loss at the same age. Certain age-related disorders, like diabetes, can increase the risk of hearing loss. Did you know that people with diabetes are twice as likely to have hearing loss? 😲

Here's the catch: whether it's aging, diabetes, or a combination, the treatment remains the same! So if you're experiencing hearing difficulties, don't just chalk it up to getting older. Schedule an appointment with us today - we're here to help you hear your best, no matter your age or condition! 💪

🍽️ Struggling to hear in restaurants? You're not alone! Many patients tell us they avoid dining out because restaurants can be very loud. 🔊

An interesting app called SoundPrint works as a sound level meter and lets users report noise levels in various venues. Recently, they published a list of the loudest and quietest restaurant chains.

🤫According to SoundPrint, Panera, IHOP, and Applebees are some of the quietest restaurant options, making them great choices for those with hearing loss. 📢On the other hand, Buffalo Wild Wings, Texas Roadhouse, and Yard House are among the loudest.

👏During Audiology Awareness month, we hope to keep empowering our patients with small bites of information like this for you to hear your best!🦻

😱Losing your hearing aid can lead to a very panicked phone call to our office: "I lost my hearing aid, what do I do?" Losing a hearing aid can be distressing, especially if you paid out of pocket or have insurance that only covers hearing aids every few years.

🦻The loss isn't just financial—if you're used to wearing your hearing aid, losing it can suddenly plunge you into a much quieter world, making daily activities and communication difficult.

If you do lose your hearing aids, here are a few steps to follow:

👣Retrace Your Steps: Start where you last had your hearing aid and search from there.
📍Use "Find My Hearing Aid" Features: If your hearing aids are paired with a smartphone, use this feature to help locate them.
☎️Contact Us: If you’ve thoroughly checked your environment and still can't find your hearing aids, give us a call. We can talk you through the next steps based on your specific situation and your hearing aid warranties.

✨We're here to help you get back to hearing clearly!🦻

🎶Don’t go breaking my hEARt…

👂Did you know that there is an association between hearing loss and cardiovascular disease?

📑A recent study investigated the relationship between hearing loss and the development of cardiovascular disease in patients. And they found that:

❤️Hearing loss was found to be significantly associated with stroke, coronary artery disease (CAD), and cardiovascular diseases (CVD). Individuals with hearing loss had:

❗38% higher odds of association with any CVD
❗36% higher odds of association with CAD
❗26% higher odds of association with stroke

🫶At Audiology First, we’re committed to caring for your hearing while also keeping your OVERALL health in mind! If you or a family member experience hearing loss or heart disease, please call today to schedule an appointment!

🦻Why did the hearing aid propose?

👂Did you know that many hearing aid users have small tips called "domes" in their ears? These tiny pieces play a HUGE role in how well your hearing aids work! Here’s why:

🔸 Open Domes: Have little ventilation holes to let natural sounds in.
🔸 Closed Domes: Have few or no holes, keeping more of the hearing aid's volume in your ear.
🔸 Power Domes: Designed for those with more significant hearing loss, these have two layers to better seal the volume in.

🫵The right dome for you depends on your specific hearing loss and how the hearing aid fits your ear. Swapping them out without programming adjustments can lead to feedback or poor sound quality!

If you need replacement domes or have questions about your hearing aids, contact our office. We’re here to make sure you have the perfect fit for your needs! 🦻
