Meet Laverne Dicks, Bluffs Resident, and the oldest living person in the state of Missouri at the age of 110 years and 228 days!
Laverne was born on June 22, 1915. As of January 24, 2026, Laverne is the oldest living person in Missouri and the 54th oldest living person in the United States.
Laverne was one of two girls (sister Lucille Erdwins) born east of Hagers Grove, Missouri to Ferdinand and Vernie (Clark) Copenhaver. She grew up on a farm - driving a team of horses and doing farm work with her family. She married Raymond Dicks on January 15, 1939. Laverne farmed with her husband - driving tractors, raising row crops, cattle, hogs, and sheep. Laverne and Raymond retired and moved to Clarence, Missouri in 1977. Laverne and her family were members of Clarence Christian Church and Laverne has held various offices in the PTA at Lentner school. After Raymond passed in November 1992, she continued to live in Clarence until 2019 when she moved to The Bluffs.
Laverne had appendicitis at 100-years-old, a broken hip at 104-years-old, and Covid at 105-years-old. She resided in Shelby County Missouri for 104 years until her hip injury and subsequent surgery. When she needed skilled nursing care, she moved to The Bluffs on September 23, 2019 and has lived there ever since.
Laverne and Raymond had one son, Donald L. Dicks, who currently resides in Columbia with his wife, Joan. Laverne has two grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews, and many grand-nieces and grand-nephews who all enjoy visiting her.
She continues to go on daily walks with family in her neighborhood at The Bluffs and enjoys her Saturday morning game of bingo.
