šŸ”„ My brain’s on fire right now, so I’ve got to share…

(No idea what’s about to come out, I’m just typing. Here it goes.)

Back when I was in undergrad hoping to become a pharmacist someday, a close friend had bought a popular book about how America is overmedicated. He ranted and raved about it, and I distinctly recall having feelings of denial.

Playing in my head was something like, ā€œMeds are lifesavers and I’m going to be saving the world as a pharmacist! All these pills are good and totally necessary for anyone taking them.ā€

Deep down, though, I knew there was some merit to the message. Even way back then, it was undeniably odd that our country consumed so many more meds than others.

This could get suuuper long, so let me cut to the source of the brain fire I’ve been fanning this week…

As I work with our first ever national wellness program cohort (RECLAIM90), evaluating functional labs PLUS functional genetics (through our UNLOCK panel), I’m afraid America’s overmedicated problem is actually way worse than I ever imagined previously (and it was already pretty bad).

Simply put: Chronic disease management meds are being dished out too liberally (big emphasis on ā€œtooā€).

I should also emphasize that I 100% maintain my career-long stance that every single one of us should be thankful for modern medicine. And, if you’re not, know that there’s a near 100% chance someone you love is alive today because of the luxury of these advancements.

That being said (and I know this is getting long), the intentional marrying of genetics ALONG WITH labs is a beautiful union.

ā€œYour labs read XYZ? Okay, fine. Let’s refer to your genetic report and uncover the layers to understand possible reasons and clues.ā€

Deploying that unified approach is a straight up power move to remove fear and instill confidence, clarity, control, optimism, and hope.

So? We’re going to help as many people as possible deploy that power move in their own lives.

I’ll stop for real this time.

So much to do. And I couldn’t be any more lit about it all.

It’s about to get really good.

Have a great weekend.

Shame…& Hope (in a broken system)

I’m not insisting we have superior clinical skills.

I’m not suggesting we can work magic.

I AM saying we made this NCPlus member feel heard…and feel hope.

šŸŽ‚ Happy 11th birthday, North Century Pharmacy. (Izzie Mae’s protein pancakes for the win!)

We used to celebrate every year on November 3rd. And it was fun. Maybe we’ll get back to it one of these days.

Right now, though, we’ve got irons in the fire that deserve 100% of our energy and focus, including a remodel and some secret projects you’ll see unfold soon enough.

Anyway, here are 11 lessons learned over 11 years that come to mind today:

1. Authenticity is king. Be yourself because anything else isn’t sustainable. If 100% of people like and agree with you, you’re probably not doing it the right way.

2. Too many people want followers without ever caring about acting like a leader. Invest in yourself and be someone worthy of that responsibility.

3. Consistency beats intensity. Most aren’t willing to do the boring work and put in the repetitions to build what they really want.

4. Care about genuinely earning trust more than you care about selling something.

5. Everything in business seems to take care of itself when you exude real love. We need more people lifting others up than tearing others down.

6. Keep going. Don’t be shocked when problems show up because nobody on the planet is immune to them. Expect them and then push through. Also, it’s a blessing to be stressed over things you once prayed for.

7. Obstacles are opportunities. They’re a chance for you to rise to a higher version of yourself and come out better on the other side. Indeed, pressure is a privilege.

8. Culture is everything. How you honor your values inside your four walls reflects directly on how you deliver to your patients. Leading with an ā€œemployees firstā€ mentality cultivates a strong ā€œcustomers firstā€ business.

9. Read. There’s no finish line when it comes to learning. Make it a non-negotiable to learn every single day. Education is inoculation against disruption.

10. Give grace, be humble, and sleep on big decisions.

11. Be radically generous. Earn your success based on service to others, not at the expense of others.

2022 felt big.
Then 2023 felt bigger.
Same goes for 2024 as well as 2025.

Even though it feels surprising, I guess it should actually be no surprise at all at this point: 2026 is going to be full of even more initiatives to fuel our mission to help more people feel better - faster, and for good.

Thank you to our local folks who got us going and put their trust in an inconveniently-located pharmacy on the outskirts of town, and thank you to those across the country who allow us to take on aspirations we never would’ve seen coming in our wildest dreams.

I’m grateful. Simple as that.

Living in the overflow,
Easton

P.S. While honoring lesson No. 4, if we’ve earned your trust and you’re truly ready to rise, I want you to know we’re still doing this for now:

There’s a radically generous (thanks, No. 11) gift you’ll get when you enter NCPlus. Importantly, it’s where all the new projects are going to live in the very foreseeable future. I’d love to see you in there: https://northcenturypharmacy.com/pages/ncplus
