Welvista

Welvista A nonprofit providing free medicine to uninsured adults & dental care to underserved children in SC. Food or Medicine?

As costs of prescription medicines continue to rise and the numbers of uninsured reach all-time highs, providing a cost-effective source for life-sustaining and life-saving prescription medications becomes critical to the low-income uninsured. The number one chronic illness in children is tooth decay, 51 million school hours annually are missed due to dental related pain or infections. Through education, prevention and restorative dental services and access, Welvista makes a difference. Welvista exists to provide prescription medications at no cost to the low-income uninsured. That is the stark choice that more and more low-income uninsured individuals face. No individual should have to choose between food or medicine.

Heart Health Basics ❤️ February is American Heart Month, a reminder that heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S.—but much of it is preventable with a few simple habits.

Ways to keep your heart healthy:
• Stay Active: Aim for 30 minutes of moderate exercise 5 days a week, plus strength training 2 days a week
• Eat heart-smart: Cut back on sodium, added sugars, and saturated fats while eating more fruits, vegetables, and whole grains
• Reduce stress: Practice deep breathing, listen to calming music, and prioritize 7–9 hours of sleep
• See your provider: Routine primary care visits matter
• Know your numbers: Blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, and weight all play a role

Small steps today can make a big difference for your heart tomorrow. 💙 Be sure to follow our MAP -Medication Assistance Pharmacy page for more healthy tips and information.

For those who are new to our social media pages, in January of 2024, four year old Jackson Lawson visited one of our Smiles for a Lifetime dental centers complaining of a toothache. During his examination, a panoramic x-ray revealed he had significant bone loss in his lower jaw accompanied by an unusual mass.

Jackson was immediately referred to an oral surgeon where that mass was later diagnosed as Rhabdomyosarcoma.

Had it not been for the dedication of our dental staff to perform this x-ray (which is not standard practice for children under the age of 6) it is hard to say how long this cancer may have gone undiscovered.

Jackson finished his year of chemotherapy maintenance in December and earlier this month his scans came back all clear with no evidence of disease! You can follow Jackson's journey on his Facebook Group "JacksonStrong". https://bit.ly/JACKSONSTRONG

Please continue to follow along as we share more stories of how Smiles For A Lifetime impacts the communities we serve.
