Welvista

Welvista A nonprofit providing free medicine to uninsured adults & dental care to underserved children in SC. Food or Medicine?

As costs of prescription medicines continue to rise and the numbers of uninsured reach all-time highs, providing a cost-effective source for life-sustaining and life-saving prescription medications becomes critical to the low-income uninsured. The number one chronic illness in children is tooth decay, 51 million school hours annually are missed due to dental related pain or infections. Through education, prevention and restorative dental services and access, Welvista makes a difference. Welvista exists to provide prescription medications at no cost to the low-income uninsured. That is the stark choice that more and more low-income uninsured individuals face. No individual should have to choose between food or medicine.

We had the opportunity to attend the 2025 Governor's Summit on Addiction, an event that brought together leaders and professionals from every corner of South Carolina who are working tirelessly to address the addiction crisis through prevention, treatment, recovery, and policy.

The summit gave us the space to truly connect with organizations and leaders making meaningful, positive changes across the state. We left with new relationships, and a renewed sense of purpose. So grateful that our team was able to serve as a vital resource, and we're excited for the opportunity to collaborate with these partners to improve the quality of life for individuals striving to succeed during and after treatment and recovery.

Smiles for a Lifetime provides transportation during school hours. A Smiles employee picks up children from school, brings them for treatment, and returns them back to their classroom. This helps to keep parents from having to take off work for dental appointments. Children receive a cleaning first and additional appointments are scheduled, if restorative is needed.

We work closely with school nurses to ensure that children are picked up and returned in a timely manner. We are mindful to schedule high school students around their schedules, to ensure core classes do not get missed.

This year's Live Healthy SC conference focused on the power of collective impact, advancing the State Health Initiative and aligning out work through the Results-Based Accountability (RBA) approach. Through the strength of partnerships and long-standing relationships across our state, this conference felt more like a family reunion than a formal convening. 💚 The energy, collaboration, and shared commitment to improving the health and well-being o fall South Carolinians were truly inspiring.

We are proud to be an active partner of the Alliance and excited to take the next steps toward being a vital part of SC Health Improvement Plan.

Our Director of Patient Services, Kahlia Aposhian, states "[I am so] grateful to have attended this year’s summit (my 3rd year!) a truly premier event that brings together healthcare leaders, educators, and policymakers and from across the state and beyond. Each year, the Summit offers meaningful opportunities to learn, network, and reconnect with longstanding partners, all while having a little fun along the way! The Palmetto Care Connections team continues to curate thoughtful, impactful sessions that highlight how telehealth is transforming access to care, particularly in rural and underserved communities across South Carolina. It’s always an honor to represent Welvista and connect with other passionate leaders dedicated to expanding healthcare access and improving outcomes for the communities that need it most."
