The Disaster and Community Crisis Center (DCC) at the University of Missouri is a category II center in the National Child Traumatic Stress Network. Our focus is on enhancing mental and behavioral health preparedness, recovery, and resilience in children, families, and communities affected by disaster. DCC’s mission includes providing national disaster mental health leadership, increasing disaster mental health public awareness, developing and implementing disaster mental health interventions, creating disaster mental health training protocols, generating disaster mental health resources, partnering with service providers, and collaborating with community partners on disaster issues. DCC is funded in part by the U.S. Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) through the National Child Traumatic Stress Initiative.

SOUTHEAST MISSOURI HOMEOWNERS NEEDED FOR RESEARCH STUDY ON EARTHQUAKE AWARENESS!!!

Cape Girardeau, New Madrid, Poplar Bluff, Caruthersville, Sikeston, and surrounding areas!

Researchers from the University of Missouri Disaster and Community Crisis Center are recruiting homeowners from Southeast Missouri who are 25 years of age or older to participate in a research study on perceptions of earthquakes and earthquake insurance.

Volunteers will participate in an interview by telephone or Zoom videoconferencing that will take approximately 20-30 minutes. Interviews will involve answering questions about earthquake risk and preparedness.

Participants will receive a $20 Walmart gift card upon completion of the focus groups.

Parent/Guardian Research Participants Needed – FAMILY COPING WITH CORONAVIRUS

MU Researchers are seeking parents and guardians of children 18-years-old or younger to answer survey questions about how their family is coping with the Coronavirus outbreak.

Participants will answer daily questions using an app downloaded to their phone, tablet, or computer.
Participation is voluntary and participants can withdraw at any time.

This work was part of a community disaster needs assessment that we conducted with Ozark Center who led the community mental health response following the disaster. Ozark Center did and continues to do amazing work in Joplin.
