21 Years Was a Good Run
(A Message From Tiffany)

When I first started my private practice in 2004, I didn’t do it because I wanted to start or run a business. I did it because it looked like the most promising way to both provide quality care for clients and simultaneously feed my family.

As a person with both ADHD and dyscalculia, it’s at least a little bit miraculous that I’ve lasted 21 years in business! I’ve worked passionately, and I’m proud of what I created.

I couldn’t even begin to document the radical shifts in technology, in our socio-political environment and in tax laws over these 21 years. It was personally very exciting to find out that I could manage all of those unpredictable waves, (pandemic, anyone?) and continue to find ways to live out of my Life Mission: “To soften sorrow, hold hope, and encourage empowerment.”

One of the more difficult learnings has been knowing when to let things go. It’s time to let Sankofa Counseling. LLC go.

But I'm not letting you go!

I’ve taken a position with SOL Mental Health Services in Frederick. Switching to seeing me under SOL is a better proposition for most of my clients. They take insurance, their out of pocket rate is less than mine, and, I will even be able to see people face to face again two days a week in Frederick.

And did I mention that they take insurance??

If you know me at all, you know that I am pure Gen X when it comes to organizations. I am so acclimated to larger assemblages of humans saying one thing but doing another, I generally start with total mistrust and then see if that organization will prove that they mean what they say. So far SOL has espoused my personal values as their own values and shown in all of their policies, process and procedures that they mean it. I do not impress easily. I am impressed with SOL Mental Health.

They are firmly committed to "Redefining what's possible in mental health." It's woven into everything they do. From everything I've seen so far, they work very hard at caring well for both clients and clinicians. I feel good about transitioning my clients to my care under this umbrella.

And for those of you who stopped coming because I'm too stinking expensive, or because you can't use your insurance? What are you waiting for?? 410.266.0952! My book should be open for appointments starting on December 1.

I will continue to grow Sankofa Unboxed Coaching with time-limited, topic specific offerings at multiple levels of access. Hopefully sometime in 2026 there will be a podcast to go along with Teachable courses, group coaching and premium coaching opportunities. I will also be offering stand-alone Ericksonian Hypnotherapy sessions.

But for therapy? Come on over to SOL!

I want to thank each and every one of you who have been with me in any part of this 21-year journey. I cherish everything I've learned from you. I deeply appreciate your trust along the way. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to walk with you.

Happy Native American Heritage Day!

Celebrating the spirit of “The 3 Sisters.” 🌽🫘🎃

(As told by Robin Wall Kimmerer, Potawatomi Botanist)

“Three beautiful women came to their dwellings on a snowy night. One was a tall woman dressed all in yellow, with long flowing hair. The second wore green, and the third was robed in orange. The three came inside to shelter by the fire.

“Food was scarce but the visiting strangers were fed generously, sharing in the little that the people had left. In gratitude for their generosity, the three sisters revealed their true identities—corn, beans, and squash—and gave themselves to the people in a bundle of seeds so that they might never go hungry again.

“At the height of the summer, when the days are long and bright, and the thunderers come to soak the ground, the lessons of reciprocity are written clearly in a Three Sisters garden. Together their stems inscribe what looks to me like a blueprint for the world, a map of balance and harmony.

“The corn stands eight feet tall; rippling green ribbons of leaf curl away from the stem in every direction to catch the sun. No leaf sits directly over the next, so that each can gather light without shading the others. The bean twines around the corn stalk, weaving itself between the leaves of corn, never interfering with their work. In the spaces where corn leaves are not, buds appear on the vining bean and expand into outstretched leaves and clusters of fragrant flowers. The bean leaves droop and are held close to the stem of the corn. Spread around the feet of the corn and beans is a carpet of big broad squash leaves that intercept the light that falls among the pillars of corn. Their layered spacing uses the light, a gift from the sun, efficiently, with no waste.

“The organic symmetry of forms belongs together; the placement of every leaf, the harmony of shapes speak their message. Respect one another, support one another, bring your gift to the world and receive the gifts of others, and there will be enough for all.

“By late summer, the beans hang in heavy clusters of smooth green pods, ears of corn angle out from the stalk, fattening in the sunshine, and pumpkins swell at your feet. Acre for acre, a Three Sisters garden yields more food than if you grew each of the sisters alone.”

It’s well worth the read!

Dante left his fragile, painful little body a year ago today. 💔❤️‍🩹💔

As much as I miss him, I feel his free, playful, sparkly, quirky spirit all around me and right next to me every single day. He made me a better human. I’m so grateful.
