FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

HEARTSONG HOSPICE OF SC Awarded CHAP Accreditation

Columbia, South Carolina — December 9, 2025 — Community Health Accreditation Partner, Inc. (CHAP) announced today that Heartsong Hospice of South Carolina has been awarded CHAP Accreditation under the CHAP Hospice Standards of Excellence. By achieving this accreditation, Heartsong Hospice has also been deemed to meet the Medicare Conditions of Participation and is officially certified as a Medicare provider.

CHAP Accreditation demonstrates that Heartsong Hospice meets the industry’s highest nationally recognized standards. The rigorous evaluation conducted by CHAP focuses on organizational structure and function, quality of services and products, human and financial resources, and long-term viability. Simply stated, adherence to CHAP’s standards leads to better quality care.

“By achieving CHAP Accreditation, Heartsong Hospice has shown a commitment to excellence,” said Nathan DeGodt, CHAP President and CEO. “We are excited to begin our partnership with Heartsong Hospice by offering support in its commitment to providing quality care and continuous improvement.”

Heartsong Hospice provides a full range of hospice services to patients and families in Columbia, SC, and surrounding communities. Heartsong Hospice brings compassionate, expert care directly to where patients feel most at home. The locally owned and operated team—made up of board-certified physicians, nurses, aides, social workers, chaplains, and bereavement counselors—focuses on dignity, comfort, and support for both patients and their families.

The organization provides pain and symptom management, emotional and spiritual support, and 24/7 availability for questions and urgent needs. Unlike large corporate hospices, decisions at Heartsong Hospice are made locally by people who know and care about the community they serve. Families can trust in Heartsong’s dedication, which recently earned recognition as “Gold – Hospice – 2025 The State’s Best.”

CHAP is an independent, not-for-profit accrediting body for community-based health care organizations. Established in 1965, CHAP was the first organization to recognize the need for accreditation in community-based care. Today, CHAP is the oldest national accrediting body in the sector, with more than 9,000 agencies accredited nationwide. Through “deeming authority” granted by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), CHAP surveys organizations providing home health, hospice, and home medical equipment services to ensure they meet Medicare Conditions of Participation and CMS Quality Standards. CHAP’s purpose is to define and advance the highest standards of community-based care.

💙 Being a Hospice Volunteer Is Truly Rewarding 💙

Volunteering with Heartsong Hospice means offering compassion, comfort, and companionship when it matters most. Our volunteers often tell us they receive just as much as they give—meaningful connections, purpose, and the honor of making a difference in someone’s life.

Whether you are helping us in the office with small tasks, painting patient’s fingernails, reading to our patient’s, grocery shopping for our patients, or just sitting and chating with our patient’s while their caregivers run an errand. Our volunteers do a little bit of everything and are irreplaceable to our mission.

We welcome volunteers ages 16 and up who have a heart for service and a desire to help patients and families during their journey.

If you’re looking for a rewarding way to give back, we would love to hear from you.
