Because we want to see you in the community and not the Emergency Room, we are sharing important news from the National Weather Service (NWS).
A High Wind Warning and a Winter Storm Warning are expected to impact northern Stillwater County today, Dec. 11, and stretch into tomorrow, Dec. 12. The High Wind Warning is effect until 5 p.m. this afternoon, Dec. 11, with west wind gusts of 50 to 60 mph expected.
The Winter Storm Warning goes into effect at 5 p.m. today and extends until 8 p.m. Friday. Potential heavy snowfall is expected, with accumulations between 4 inches and 9 inches, with those higher amounts mainly north and east of Columbus. Travel will be difficult due to slick and snow-covered roads combined with decreased visibility due to wind gusting as high as 35 mph.
The NWS also noted there’s an 80 percent chance of precipitation today and a high of 62 degrees in Columbus. There will be a rapid temperature decline, changing rain to snow and potentially creating a flash freeze on the roads late this afternoon and this evening (see graphic below for timing). The NWS is reporting that travel “may become treacherous” during that time.
The high Friday will be 22 degrees with a 90 percent chance of snow.
