🎧 New Episode Out Now!

February may spotlight love—but healthy relationships don’t begin with someone else. They begin with how you see yourself.
In today’s episode of Stay Mindful with Dr. Evelyn Davis, we explore how self-esteem develops, how it gets shaken, and how self-worth influences the relationships we choose, tolerate, and nurture.

In honor of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month and International Boost Self-Esteem Month, we’re talking about:

• How early messages shape your self-esteem
• Signs your self-esteem may have been shaken
• How self-worth affects teen dating dynamics
• How old beliefs follow us into adulthood
• Practical ways to rebuild confidence through alignment
This episode is for teens navigating identity—and adults still unlearning old messages.

Meet Dr. George Edmund Haynes, the first Black man to earn a doctorate in sociology from Columbia — and the co-founder of the National Urban League.
He was also the first Black executive in the U.S. federal government to focus on race relations.
A trailblazer in social work and racial justice, Haynes believed in uplifting Black communities through education, jobs, and fair housing.

Toni Morrison didn’t just write novels — she wrote freedom into existence.
Her work explored trauma, race, healing, and generational pain through a lens of truth and beauty.
Mental health and social justice live in her storytelling — because stories can heal.

Hey everyone — this week we’re taking a short pause, but that doesn’t mean the reflection stops.

If you haven’t had a chance to catch up on this season of Stay Mindful with Dr. Evelyn Davis, this is the perfect time.

Here’s a snippet from one of our recent episodes to revisit — or discover for the first time.

Bayard Rustin was the strategic mind behind the 1963 March on Washington.
A nonviolent organizer, mentor to Dr. King, and openly gay man, Rustin worked behind the scenes to build coalitions rooted in justice and dignity.
His approach to peace-building aligns with the heart of social work: advocacy, human rights, and compassion.

Dr. E. Kitch Childs was a psychologist, feminist, and one of the early founders of what we now call intersectionality in mental health.
She advocated for therapy that embraced Black women, LGBTQ+ people, and those pushed to the margins.
Her work helped expand who therapy was for — and how it could heal.

Bebe Moore Campbell was a best-selling author and fierce mental health advocate.
She co-founded NAMI’s Urban Los Angeles chapter and fought to break the silence around mental illness in Black communities.
Her legacy lives on through Minority Mental Health Awareness Month, which was established in her honor.

In 1968, Black social workers at the NASW conference walked out and formed the National Association of Black Social Workers.
Why? Because they refused to stay silent about racism in social work, child welfare, and mental health systems.
Their boldness birthed a legacy of advocacy that continues to push for culturally responsive care and justice today.

Racism is not just a social issue — it is a direct threat to mental health and psychological safety.

For generations, access to care, dignity, and healing has been fought for, often in the face of systems that excluded, silenced, or harmed marginalized communities. Racism undermines that progress and creates ongoing trauma that affects emotional well-being, access to services, and trust in mental health systems.

Protecting mental health means naming racism, challenging it, and actively working to create spaces where people feel safe, valued, and empowered. Advocacy, accountability, and equity are not optional — they are essential to healing.

Mental health justice is racial justice.
