Sending love and my deepest condolences to Cori Broadus and her family on the loss of her beautiful daughter. Born at 25 weeks due to HELLP syndrome, she bravely fought in the NICU for 10 months before being released home just short of a month ago.
HELLP syndrome is a serious pregnancy-related complication related to preeclampsia that involves Hemolysis, Elevated Liver enzymes, and Low Platelet count, which is a medical emergency that can affect both the birthing parent and baby’s health and often requires early delivery and close monitoring. It is listed as a severe feature of hypertensive disorders in pregnancy by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG).
🚨 Warning signs to watch for in pregnancy (per ACOG):
• Severe headache that doesn’t go away
• Pain in the upper right abdomen (near the liver)
• Vision changes
• Swelling in face or hands
• Sudden severe nausea or vomiting
By monitoring Cori's pregnancy closely and receiving care early in her pregnancy, she was able to experience this time with her baby girl.
Momma's to be, if something doesn’t feel right, trust your body and contact your provider early. Regular prenatal care helps detect complications like Pre-Eclampsia and HELLP early.
Holding Cori, her daughter’s memory, close in our hearts.
