I always say mental health is the health part of my mental health and feeling physically healthy. As I have finally settled into working for myself and running two businesses, I decided I'm comfortable setting aside the time to work out again because it's a necessity for my mental health.

I see this a lot!

Just because someone does not have ill intent or because you don't have ill intent doesn't mean that you don't owe them an apology or they don't owe you one. I'll explain.

Society has kind of ingrained in people that if you didn't mean any harm, then you don't have to apologize, but not meaning harm and hurting someone are not the same.

Taking accountability for one's actions is how you learn, grow, and move forward.

Do you know what I mean? When someone else handles situations, it makes you question your own competence or your own role? Don't do that!

That's your emotional mind. We have the wise mind, emotional mind, and rational mind. One causes us to think purely intellectually, one based on how we are feeling, and one provides balance.

Be balanced. Consider the facts, what you know, and whether or not you're basing what you're feeling on emotions and place the blame appropriately.
How do you do this? I write it down or talk it out with a friend, colleague, or family member!

We often find ourselves exhausting ourselves, supporting others. Advocating for our friends, pushing our friends to do what's best for them. How about giving yourself that same love and support?

I always say that we tend to give to others more than we give or do for ourselves.

So remember, fight for your own mental health, which means:
✨️ Engage in self care
✨️ Rest, relax, reset
✨️ Seek out therapy
✨️ Set boundaries

I can't stress this enough!

Compliance is not the way! Let's talk about things to not say or stop saying:

❌️ "Do something when an adult tells you to"
❌️ "You don't say no to an adult"
❌️ "That's your [insert family member] give them a hug, kiss, sit on their lap"
❌️ "If [insert person name or role] tells you to do something you do it no matter what"

Instead try:

✅️ Explaining why they need to do something
✅️ Telling them they don't have to allow unwanted touches
✅️ Explaining safety and personal boundaries
✅️ Teaching them autonomy and how to advocate for what makes them comfortable

For anyone who has experienced any type of trauma I just want to remind you that the perpetrator is to blame not you!

When I talk with my clients about trauma we always discuss what I call a trauma brain. We talk about how our trauma influences our perception of others and our perception of ourselves and we have to recognize that, challenge it and reframe it!

So it doesn't matter where you were, what you were doing, who you were with, how you were dressed, or how you were acting the perpetrator of your trauma and assault is the one to blame!

Like I tell my clients place blame where it appropriately goes which on the person who perpetrated the trauma!
