Gone is a world that is oblivious to word "Autism"... Over the years, awareness has spread ... Laws have been put in place ... Knowledge of IEPs and 504 plans have been administered ...
While all of this is true, ACCEPTANCE and understanding across society, school systems, and home fronts alike still waver ... It's ALWAYS been the time to learn more about the Disorder that now affects every 1:36 child. Not for the trend, not for look ... Don't wait until your family or friends are searching for an outlet for resources, knowledge, or services. Early Intervention is key, SUPPORT & LOVE is NECESSARY ....

Individualized Education Plans a.k.a IEPs are put into place for the successful means of a student with a disability. Plans are generally derived from Parents, Teachers, Paraprofessionals, Administration, and Special Needs providers. If your child has any type of learning, social, or mental disability, proper diagnosis has to be put into place to start services that may be offered(social, behavioral, speech therapy) in accordance to school guidelines and outside service providers. These plans help shape the curriculum received at school, and the type of services that can be rendered going forward. Remember if your child has any type of delayed motor skill, speech, or social interaction ..... IT MAY BE A REASON WHY ........

Stimming is a natural behavior that can improve emotional regulation and prevent meltdowns in stressful situations .... In some cases it could also be a sign of excitement in a nonverbal child .....

Here are some examples of how Autistic individuals stim ......

Visual - Flapping hands, blinking and / or moving fingers in front of eyes; staring repetitively at a light

Auditory - Making vocal sounds; snapping fingers

Tactile - Scratching; rubbing the skin with one's hands or with an external object

Vestibular - Moving body in rhythmic motion; rocking front and back or side-to-side

Taste - Licking body parts; licking an object

Smell - Smelling objects or hands; other people
