🌻 Did You Know? Refusing Protocol Care in the Hospital

Did you know that if you refuse certain protocol care in the hospital, social services might be called on you? This can be an incredibly stressful and intimidating situation for any expecting mother. It's essential to know your rights and how to advocate for yourself effectively to prevent this from happening.

Here are some tips to help protect yourself:
🤰 Educate Yourself: Know your birth rights, including informed consent and refusal. Understanding your legal rights can empower you to make decisions confidently.

🤰 Create a Birth Plan: Clearly outline your preferences and discuss them with your healthcare provider beforehand. Ensure that your birth plan is well-documented and respected.

🤰 Communicate Clearly: Engage in open and respectful communication with your healthcare team. Ask questions, seek clarity, and express your concerns and preferences assertively but calmly.

🤰 Have an Advocate: Consider having a doula, midwife, or a trusted person with you who can help advocate for your wishes and provide support if conflicts arise.

🤰 Document Everything: Keep a record of all discussions and decisions made regarding your care. Documentation can be crucial if any disputes arise.

The mission at United By Loss Foundation, Inc. is to provide grief support, access to educational resources and tools, and advocacy for mothers and birth givers who have experienced perinatal loss.

Dr. Simbi Animashaun is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Founder of the United By Loss Foundation (UBLF), which is a 501(c)3 nonprofit entity in Georgia. The establishment of UBLF was inspired by her lived experiences with recurrent miscarriages and a lack of advocacy, resources, and grief support.
