🎙️ New episode is live

In this conversation with Kristina Chamberlain, we get honest about what real lactation mentorship looks like—why supervising hours isn’t the same as mentoring, what students actually need to become confident IBCLCs, and why mentorship is a professional responsibility, not an afterthought. If you’ve ever wondered whether you’re “ready” to be a mentor—or felt stuck navigating Pathway 2 or 3—this episode is for you.

🎧 Listen now on Behind the Latch and let me know what resonated most.

Every mentorship meetup covers things we don’t always get space for:
✔️ Clinical reasoning
✔️ Scope + ethics
✔️ Confidence-building as an IBCLC or student

It's totally FREE and happens every month. Register for your spot!

✨ Ask Me Anything ✨

Have a question about lactation, the IBCLC exam, private practice, or clinical cases?
Send me a DM with your question and I’ll answer it in a video.

Nothing is off-limits — if you’re wondering it, someone else probably is too.

When I first started encountering craniosacral therapy in lactation spaces, I was skeptical.
Over time—through learning, observation, and clinical practice—I began to see patterns in babies who struggled at the breast despite solid lactation management.

CST isn’t a replacement for lactation care, but for some dyads, it’s been a valuable adjunct that supports regulation, comfort, and feeding function. I wrote this post to share what I’ve learned, what the evidence says, and how I think about CST in practice today.

How strong is an infant’s suck at the breast—and how do we actually assess it?

In this episode of Behind the Latch, I’m joined by Ellen Chetwynd to discuss her paper introducing the Infant Suck Strength Exam (ISSE)—an accessible, hands-on clinical tool for evaluating infant suck during breastfeeding.

We talk about:
• Why “weak suck” is often poorly defined in practice
• What the ISSE measures—and what it doesn’t
• How suck strength informs real-world breastfeeding management
• Where this tool fits alongside oral exams and milk transfer assessment
• How to use structured assessment without oversimplifying the dyad

If you assess infant feeding for a living, this episode adds language, structure, and clarity to something we all feel but don’t always measure well.

Studying for the IBCLC exam can feel overwhelming—especially when you’re not sure what to focus on or how deep to go.

My IBCLC Study Guides are designed to do exactly that:
✔️ Break down complex topics clearly
✔️ Align with the IBCLC exam blueprint
✔️ Focus on clinical reasoning—not memorization
✔️ Help you study efficiently, not endlessly

These are the guides I wish existed when I was studying.
