Flu vaccine talk:

Our office administers both flu shots and Flumist

Flu shot:
-first licensed for use in 1945
-comes in pre-filled syringes that do not contain any preservatives or thimersol
-does not contain any virus particles
-can be given to anyone over 6 months of age
-provides protection against Influenza A and B
-common possible side effects include injection site tenderness, redness and swelling, fever, fussiness or irritability

Flumist:
-first approved by the FDA in 2003
-comes in pre-filled vials that do not contain any preservatives
-does contain weakened virus particles but cannot cause infection
-can be given to anyone over 24 months of age
-not required to sniff or inhale while given
-provides protection against Influenza A and B
-common possible side effects include runny or stuffy nose, sore throat or fever

We are one week into our office merger.
One exciting thing we want to remind all of our patients and parents about=Walk-In Hours!
Walk-In Hours are from 8-9am every Monday through Friday. These are times to come in and be seen by whichever of our providers is rotating in that shift that day. This is for sick visits only-not a visit you would have scheduled with your regular provider such as for medication re-checks or a chronic medical concern that has been ongoing for over a week. If you are driving from the North side and you are feeling unsure, you can call our office to confirm. Someone will be answering our phones, as always, right before 8am.
