đź’™ Community Generosity in Action! đź’™

Every year, Centra Credit Union team members select local organizations to support through their annual giving initiative. This year, their Consumer Lending Team chose Our Hospice of South Central Indiana as a recipient of a $2,500 donation!

They shared:

“We recognize all the incredible work Our Hospice does for those in our community and want to show our appreciation with this donation. The work you do is so impactful to those going through the hardest times in their lives.”

🎙️ New Episode Alert: Better Together Podcast 🇺🇸

In this heartfelt episode of the Better Together Podcast, host and President Steph Cain sits down with retired Air Force Major General Mark Pillar to share the meaning and impact of the Our Hospice We Honor Veterans program. General Pillar walks us through a typical pinning ceremony—from coordinating with families to reading a tribute poem, presenting a custom plaque crafted by local C4 students, and offering a final salute.

Along the way, he reflects on powerful moments: veterans opening up with stories their families had never heard, a light-hearted exchange with a WWII WAC, and a note from a family who saw their loved one smile one last time after a ceremony—“a priceless memory.”

Whether you’re a veteran, a caregiver, or a community member, you’ll hear why this volunteer-led program restores dignity, sparks connection, and creates lasting comfort for families across South Central Indiana.

“Knowing is power.” 💙

Our Hospice team member Emily Barnette, Executive Assistant to the President, was recently featured in The Republic’s “Colors for a Cure” publication.

Emily’s story about taking charge of her health through genetic testing to assess her risk for cancer is a powerful reminder that awareness and prevention can make all the difference. Her courage and proactive approach reflect the same compassion and strength we see every day at Our Hospice — among our patients, families, and staff — all striving to make every moment count.

🌟 Better Together Podcast – Episode 6 🌟

In this episode, President and Host Steph Cain sits down with Chaplain Marc Phillips to talk about what spiritual care in hospice really looks like. It’s far more than “last rites”—it’s about listening first, meeting people where they are, and helping patients and families make every moment count.

Marc explains how chaplains create space for honest conversations, walk alongside patients and families with presence and compassion, and help capture meaningful stories that can be treasured for years to come. He shares the moving story of a veteran whose son heard one of his father’s memories for the very first time—an unexpected gift of chaplaincy.
