Part-Time Assessment Counselor
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Job Summary:
The Part-Time Assessment Counselor will play a crucial role in supporting client access to substance use treatment by conducting clinical assessments in the field. This position requires flexibility, strong clinical judgment, and the ability to engage individuals in a variety of settings, including county jails, treatment centers, detox facilities, and other community-based locations. The Assessment Counselor will serve as a key representative of the organization, ensuring that every assessment is performed professionally, ethically, and in alignment with state and federal guidelines. The ideal candidate will have experience in substance use treatment and the ability to work independently while supporting the organization’s mission to connect clients with appropriate levels of care.
Duties, Responsibilities & Essential Job Functions:
· Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments for individuals referred from county jails, treatment centers, detox facilities, and community partners.
· Perform assessments on an as-needed basis, often requiring flexible scheduling and travel.
· Collaborate with referral sources and internal staff to determine appropriate level of care recommendations.
· Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all assessments in accordance with state regulations and organizational standards.
· Serve as a liaison between referral sources and the admissions team to ensure smooth transition into treatment.
· Demonstrate knowledge and adherence to state and federal confidentiality regulations, including HIPAA and 42 CFR Part 2.
· Communicate effectively and professionally with clients, referral partners, and team members.
· Represent the organization with professionalism in external environments such as correctional facilities and partner agencies.
· Participate in team meetings, supervision, and ongoing training as required.
Qualifications:
· CDCA (Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant) or higher credential required.
· 1–3 years of experience working in substance use disorder treatment.
· High School Diploma required; Associate or Bachelor's degree preferred in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
· Experience conducting assessments or intake evaluations strongly preferred.
· Ability to work independently and manage a field-based schedule.
· Strong interpersonal, communication, and crisis-management skills.
· Ability to build rapport quickly with diverse populations.
· Knowledge of substance use treatment levels of care, clinical criteria, and community resources.
· Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required.
· Ability to maintain professionalism when working within correctional or high-acuity environments.
· Flexible and adaptable to changing needs, schedules, and situations.
· Demonstrates a strong desire to help clients access treatment and begin their recovery journey
Pay rate commensurate with Licensure
