It is 2026, and Black women are still fighting battles in business and leadership spaces that should have been settled decades ago.
We remain among the most educated demographics in the country, yet our businesses receive a fraction of the funding, our leadership is constantly questioned, and our expertise is often overlooked until it is validated by someone else.
But the truth is more complex than racism alone. Systems of scarcity have also conditioned many of these same Black women to: compete rather than collaborate; and to guard opportunities instead of expanding them. I understand that its origins can be traced back to slavery and plantarions. My question is, when will we break these chains? When will we wise up and set ourselves free? That mindset keeps all of us smaller than we need to be.
At the same time, we continue to witness performative allyship—where equity is celebrated in public but resisted when it requires sharing real power, resources, and access.
Or worse, so-called allies secretly supporting while publicly staying quiet when microaggressions or flat-out racism is exposed.
If we are serious about change, we must move beyond slogans, empty rhetoric and all around fake sisterhoods, whether they be Black, White, or anywhere in between.
What do we REALLY need in my humble opinion?
✅️We need REAL investment in Black women-led businesses and leadership.
✅️We need collaboration instead of competition and sabotage among Black women.
✅️We need TRUE allies who are willing to move from words to measurable action.
✅️We need said allies to loudly and publicly stand up and stand in the gap for Black women when they witness harm being caused.
✅️And we need communities (both within our own and outside of) that celebrate each other’s successes instead of questioning it.
Black women have always been builders—of movements, families, businesses, and culture.
We can also be our own worst enemies at times.
The question is not whether we are capable of leading the future.
The question is whether the systems around, even the ones that we've created around ourselves, are ready to evolve.
I will continue to do what I can to lead with love, collaborate, and bring others along in all the spaces that I enter and hold space. I will continue to stay grounded in who I am and whose I am.
What God has for me is for me. No need to compete.
Just some thoughts on this Friday....
