Happy Doctors’ Day! 🩺❣️

Today, we recognize the work of physicians everywhere.

That work shows up every day in caring for patients, and in the leadership and advocacy that shape care across communities. It continues with how physicians support and guide the next generation, while they continue to learn and grow throughout their careers.

At OSMA, we work alongside physicians to advocate for their patients and communities, address the challenges physicians face every day, and support physicians across every stage of their careers. As the largest physician-led organization in Ohio, that shared effort drives what we do.

Thank you for everything you bring to the profession!

Yesterday, OSMA was at the Statehouse providing testimony on two bills with significant implications for physicians across Ohio:

• SB 162: Would establish a 12-month limit for insurers to audit paid claims, extend the time physicians have to appeal takebacks, and require electronic notification when available. OSMA supports these changes because they would provide more predictability, improve financial stability for practices, and reduce administrative burden.

• SB 36: Would revise the law governing the practice of optometry. OSMA and OOS oppose the bill due to concerns about surgical training requirements, patient safety, and lack of physician oversight for procedures.

Breaking update: HB 220 has now passed the Ohio House in a vote of 80-11.

This bill is one of a series of insurance reform proposals OSMA has been spearheading support for in the Ohio Legislature and is intended to streamline prior authorization requirements that can delay care and create significant administrative burden for physicians.

They matched. 🎓

Our 2023 Summer Scholars are beginning residency programs across the country — many continuing their training right here in Ohio.

The OSMA Foundation supported these future physicians early in their journey and will continue celebrating them at every stage that follows. We are proud to see where their paths are leading and the difference they will make for patients and communities.

OSMA recently met with Central Ohio Urology Group alongside Rep. Brian Lorenz for Ohio for a practice visit in Worthington.

Practice leadership shared firsthand how mounting financial pressures and insurer downcoding are affecting reimbursement and practice operations.

Thank you to Jason Guagenti, Chief Operating Officer, and Dr. Jonathan Corbett for hosting this important conversation.

Practice visits like this are one of the ways OSMA Group Membership provides opportunities for organizations to engage directly with policymakers on issues affecting medical practice and patient care.
