When Shelby Rice walked across the stage to graduate from Mount Carmel College of Nursing earlier this year, she wasn’t just starting her career—she was continuing a family tradition. Shelby, a graduate of Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School, followed in the footsteps of her grandmother, Maggie Thiel Berger, who graduated from MCCN in 1960.

Separated by 65 years, both women share a deep commitment to caring for others, rooted in their Catholic faith and Mount Carmel’s mission to treat mind, body, and soul. Today, Shelby is beginning her nursing journey at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital—the same hospital where Maggie once served in the operating room.

From pinning ceremonies to shared values, this story is a beautiful reminder that nursing is more than a profession—it’s a calling that spans generations.

The Mount Carmel Alumni Association is rallying around one of our own — Tim Kuebler, a proud MCCN graduate and Mount Carmel East colleague — whose daughter, Eliana, is bravely battling DIPG, a rare and aggressive pediatric brain tumor.

Right now, the Kuebler family is focused on what matters most: giving Eliana the best care, the most love, and the happiest memories possible.

We’re asking our Mount Carmel family and beyond to come together in support. Donations will help cover medical expenses, travel for treatment, and lost wages — easing the burden so the Kueblers can stay focused on Eliana.

Every donation makes a difference. To contribute, visit their GoFundMe page: https://bit.ly/4lhBvMf

Thank you for showing what it means to be Mount Carmel Strong.

It is with faith in God's eternal love that we share the passing of Sister Barbara Hahl, CSC, one of Mount Carmel’s most beloved lights. Over her remarkable 39 years with us, she played a pivotal role in countless major projects and held numerous leadership roles. But it’s not the titles or accomplishments we’ll remember most—it’s her unwavering love for Mount Carmel’s colleagues, her tireless dedication to our mission of compassion, and the deep connections she fostered throughout Central Ohio.

As a Sister of the Holy Cross, Sr. Barbara devoted her life to serving Jesus by serving others, inspiring all of us to live lives of service and compassion. Her legacy will continue to shine in the lives she touched. May God’s face shine upon her and may she rest in peace.

Her funeral Mass will be live-streamed for those who wish to honor her life and service: https://bit.ly/3CEaMIx
