Homesteading on a small scale (city urban yards) or large scale (acres in the countryside) is a never ending opportunity to hone skills for living in tune with nature, no matter what the circumstances. Caring for plants, nonhuman animals, and each other…and doing it well, takes a level of presence and tenacity that satisfies the soul.
When observing life through the lens of the 5 elements, we can see that if there is a dominating factor, all other balance gets thrown off.
There are cycles that generate more harmony and create more life and health. Then there are cycles that assault that harmony and create more dysfunction and disease. The more we can move WITH the seasons of the year, and the seasons of life, the generally more simple (and hopefully easeful!) life will be.
Springtime is a time of birthing. New life pushes through the darkness to try the first wobbly steps. It’s the yang energy coming forth from the yin of winter. But it’s still a kid. Young energy. Unsteady on its legs. Lil bit goofy and bursting with promise. It’s the energy of going up, down, around obstacles. Taking the first steps. Go🌱
