✨ My Doula Why ✨

Since childhood, people have told me that birth work just fits me. And as I’ve grown into this path, I’ve come to see it’s true — everything in my life has pointed me here.

For me, doula work is about more than birth. It’s about helping women stand in the power they already hold, while knowing they are never alone in the journey.

Even my name carries this calling: Aja — the name of an Orisha spirit of the forest, healing, and herbal wisdom. To me, it’s a reflection of what I was created to do: hold space, nurture life, and walk with women through one of the most sacred passages there is.

This is my doula why. This is my calling. 🤎

🤱🏽✨ Today is the last day of August, which also means the close of National Breastfeeding Awareness Month.

This month is about more than feeding — it’s about honoring the sacred bond between mother and baby, while recognizing that breastfeeding is not always simple. It’s a learned skill, it can be challenging, and it often requires support.

The theme of National Breastfeeding Month is to promote, protect, and advocate for breastfeeding. That means:
🌿 Promoting education so mothers know what to expect
🌿 Protecting the right to feed in every space without shame
🌿 Advocating for resources, policies, and communities that support mothers through this journey

Every journey looks different. Some nurse for days, some for years, and some find other feeding paths — and all of it deserves respect.

As a doula, I believe no woman should feel alone in her feeding journey. Whether it’s breastfeeding, pumping, combo feeding, or formula — your effort matters, and you are seen. 🤎

As August comes to a close, so does National Breastfeeding Month 🤱🏽✨

Breastfeeding is sacred, powerful, and yes, sometimes hard. Here are 3 things I wish more women were told about this journey:

1. It’s a skill both you + your baby learn together.

2. Discomfort at first is normal, not failure.

3. Support makes all the difference.

No matter how your story looks, every effort is valid, every journey is worthy.
