The holiday season can be magical — but also loud, busy, and overwhelming for many of our kiddos with sensory sensitivities. Here's some tips to help you feel more prepared and make the season a little smoother!

✨ 1. Prep ahead
Talk with your child about what to expect — who they’ll see, where they’re going, and what the day might look like. A simple “first → then” or picture schedule can make everything feel more predictable.

✨ 2. Create a quiet space
Big gatherings can be a lot. Having a calm “break area” with headphones, a fidget, or a comfort item gives kids a safe place to reset if they start to feel overwhelmed.

✨ 3. Support holiday meals
It’s totally okay if your child sticks with their familiar foods. Bring a safe option from home and let them explore new foods at their own pace — even looking, smelling, or touching is progress!

✨ 4. Keep routines where you can
Try holding onto consistent nap times, snacks, or bedtime routines. Even a little predictability can help kids stay regulated on busy holiday days.

✨ 5. Add movement
A few minutes of movement or “heavy work” before activities — like jumping, pushing, or animal walks — can help kids feel calmer and more ready for new environments.
