The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Banyan Communications are developing a nationwide campaign to help parents and caregivers understand concussions in youth and how to care for them. They are asking parents and caregivers who have children that are 18 years or younger to share their concussion knowledge and any challenges they may have to make informed concussion care decisions by participating in a 60-minute focus group via Zoom. Participants will receive a $25 gift card for their time. If you are interested in participating please click here:

Grateful for our Audiology friends! Did you know that kids who experience a TBI are at risk for hearing loss too!? We must do better to screen hearing after even a mild TBI.

CELEBRATE OCTOBER AS AUDIOLOGY AWARENESS MONTH with The Ohio State University Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Curious about how you hear? Notice you're having difficulty hearing people who are wearing masks? Finding that listening on virtual meetings or in places with competing background noise is challenging? Do you have ringing or buzzing sounds in your ears and have been told there is nothing you can do to help this? Call for an appointment for a complimentary full audiologic evaluation at 614-292-6251. Cost of services are generously underwritten by The College of Arts and Sciences at Ohio State.

The CABI Lab is excited to announce that Dr. Jennifer Lundine (Assistant Professor in Speech & Hearing Science) was awarded a two-year R03 grant from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health & Human Development of NIH. The project, "Pilot Study to Develop a Functional Status Score for Children with Acute Neurologic Injuries and Illnesses," includes Dr. Jared Huling (Assistant Professor in the Dept of Statistics) as mPI and co-investigator Dr. Julie Leonard at Nationwide Children's Hospital. The goal of this study is to demonstrate feasibility and proof of concept for the development of a functional status score that uses clinically relevant claims data from the electronic medical record to accurately represent a child’s functional mobility, self-care, and cognitive/communication status.

The CABI Lab participated in a fall service activity collecting women's professional clothing for Dress for Success, Columbus -- an organization intended to empower women to achieve economic independence by providing professional attire, interview skills, and other tools. Many members of the lab got together to sort, organize, & pack the donations -- and we shared some pizza and snacks as an end-of-semester celebration. Special thanks to Sophia Nichols for organizing this great activity -- and thanks to all who donated and/or collected donations!
