ROWING is for EVERYBODY!!
🦿🦾👩🏾🦽👨🦯🧑🏽🦼
Please spread the word to any friends, family members or patients with physical, visual or intellectual disabilities that they too can learn how to row! (On the water and/or on the indoor rowing machine!!)
Over the last decade, adaptive rowing programs have sprung up all over the USA. Though I think programs are still relatively small and lack proper funding. Thus MORE exposure, education and recruitment is needed to provide more opportunities for everybody. .......
I first got involved back in 2012 or 2013, while in physical therapy school. One of our professors suggested volunteering for program, and I was excited to see rowing as a listed sport! It was an hour drive to Jacksonville University’s boathouse but I loved hanging out with the adaptive rowers, rowing while 🐬would swim by us, and learning about the ways we can adapt the boats to different bodies. I volunteered when I could, but wish it could have been more (darn grad school and it’s chaotic schedule!).
About that time I believe was developing their adaptive program . A few years later once I moved home to Ohio, I started volunteering with them again. And now, I help with their off-water strength and conditioning, and sport related injuries!
GET INVOLVED.
SPREAD THE WORD.
