Francis Cecil Sumner, referred to as the “Father of Black Psychology.” He is primarily known for being the first African American to receive a Ph.D. in psychology (in 1920). From 1928 until his death in 1954, Sumner served as the chair of the psychology department at Howard University.

This therapeutic group aims to provide a supportive and empathetic space for adolescents.
Participants will explore gaining self-awareness, developing positive coping mechanisms,
improving daily problem-solving skills, feeling connected with others, and making healthy
decisions as they grow through turbulent times. As a result, participants will gain knowledge on
coping skills, life skills, and social skills.
