GiGi’s Playhouse—an outside organization and the only international network of Down Syndrome Achievement Centers—is hosting a symposium focused on evidence-based strategies for supporting people with Down syndrome. Led by experienced educators and therapists from across the GiGi’s Playhouse Network, this session will explore how people with Down syndrome learn best and share practical, easy-to-apply strategies tutors can use right away.

This is a helpful resource for tutors looking to expand their toolkit and strengthen inclusive, learner-centered instruction.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

This Valentine’s Day, we’re celebrating the love, trust, and growth our families experience with Learning Aid Ohio. Here’s what one family had to share:

“Learning Aid Ohio has provided my son with experiences to help him learn new skills and adapt to the challenges he faces daily with his special needs. He has gained so many new skills, is able to focus longer, and can manage himself much better. We have the best sessions with our tutor — we’ve even done outdoor activities with pumpkins and snow! She is all about relationship building, and the way he trusts her is incredible.”

Meet Ruth!

Ruth is a certified Intervention and Reading Specialist who enjoys helping Learners build confidence, discover effective strategies, and grow through individualized, strengths-based instruction. She works with Learners from kindergarten through adulthood, including adults with developmental disabilities.

"I love watching Learners build confidence in their skills while exploring a variety of chunked, creative learning strategies to reach their goals. I enjoy helping Learners identify their strengths, turn areas of need into areas of growth, and connect their interests to future life choices and career possibilities."

Ruth brings experience supporting Learners in phonics, reading, vocabulary, foundational and life-skills math, functional writing, organization, and social-communication skills. New to Learning Aid Ohio, she looks forward to creating meaningful learning moments and favorite memories with Learners and families across the program.

Meet Brenda!

Brenda is a seasoned Early Childhood Intervention Specialist and is honored to join Learning Aid Ohio’s mission to support Learners with diverse needs. She blends playful, hands-on learning tools with compassionate guidance to help Learners build strong foundations in literacy and math while feeling seen, supported, and celebrated.

"I’m especially excited to help Learners reach their fullest potential—academically, socially, and emotionally. Every child deserves a champion who believes in their growth, and I’m proud to be that support through Learning Aid Ohio."

Brenda brings years of experience mentoring Learners and families, creating engaging anchor charts, and fostering joyful learning environments. Though she is new to Learning Aid Ohio, she looks forward to partnering with families and supporting Learners—one joyful step at a time.

We’re excited to share this free virtual learning opportunity hosted by Statewide Services & Outreach at the Ohio Deaf and Blind Education Services.

These virtual sessions feature literacy experts exploring practical tools and strategies for teaching reading and writing to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind learners. Topics include how access impacts language and literacy and how to adapt existing materials to meet diverse communication and learning needs.

Sessions are held the second and fourth Tuesday of each month, beginning in February—join one or attend as many as you’d like!
