Education & Training
The Department’s three-year residency program is one of the most competitive in the country. The fellowship training offers numerous clinical, surgical, research and teaching opportunities in the areas of cornea, external disease and refractive surgery, vitreoretinal disease and surgery, and neuro-ophthalmology/orbital disease and surgery. Our faculty are involved in a number of multi-center clinical trials funded by the National Eye Institute, and have published major textbooks recognized for advancing ophthalmic medical education. Keratoconus impacts more than eyesight. At the American Academy of Optometry meeting in Boston, Dr. Stephanie Pisano and Dr. Abigail Menner (our former optometry resident) shared insights on how this condition can affect mental health, financial well-being, and patients’ experiences online. We’re committed to research and care that puts patients first - every step of the way.

One year after LASIK with Dr. Castellano, this husband and wife returned for their follow-up. They’re both still seeing an incredible 20/15 vision, sharper than 20/20!

Long-term results like these show how life-changing LASIK can be. If you’ve been thinking about clearer vision, now is the perfect time to take the next step.

As you’re choosing toys and gifts this season, remember to keep eye safety in mind. December is Safe Toys and Gifts Awareness Month, a reminder from Prevent Blindness that the best gifts support healthy play and protect healthy vision. When picking out presents, especially for infants and children under three, choose toys that match the child’s developmental stage and abilities to help prevent eye injuries and keep little eyes safe all year long.
