Most colorectal cancers start as polyps that can be found early - through screening by colonoscopy and polyp removal.

Prevention isn’t about symptoms — it’s about staying healthy longer.

If you are 45 years of age, or older, it's time to talk to your primary care provider or gastroenterologist about scheduling a colonoscopy. You can also call 812.579.4541 to schedule directly or go to www.crh.org/colonoscopy to request an appointment.

Learn why getting screened for colon cancer is so important from Dr. Patrick Barrett , CRH Gastroenterologist.

"There are a handful of diseases we can prevent, and colon cancer is one of them. This is really how we can make a difference in the lives of just about everybody."

Many people think they aren't at risk for colon cancer because they don't have symptoms. Most people develop polyps in their colon over time and those polys could result in a cancer diagnosis if left untreated. Columbus Regional Health Gastroenterology follows recommendations for patients to start routine colorectal screenings at age 45.
