The Hospital Foundation was fortunate to receive a Kirby Endowment Grant from the Polk County Community Foundation to support patients at AdventHealth Polk. The funds are used to fill the Kirby Care Cart with gifts which staff and volunteers share throughout the halls. From phone chargers and playing cards to word searches and huggables, we love fulfilling the Kirby family's wishes of making patients' hospital stays a little more enjoyable.

AdventHealth Polk recognized the loss of a wonderful volunteer, Mary Duncan, with ribbons at the front entrance. The ribbons were hung during a memorial service this week and will remain as a tribute to Mary throughout the month of February. Staff spoke about Mary's impact on the hospital, while her family shared stories of the joy Mary received from volunteering.

You did it! Your generous donations to The Hospital Foundation in support of AdventHealth Polk totaled over $50,000 in the last quarter of 2025! This amount was matched by a very generous community member, so your donations doubled to over $100,000 for your local hospital. We appreciate your continued support.

When Foundation board members learned employees were no able to contribute to the Teammate Care Fund during the transition to AdventHealth Polk, they voted to donate the amount normally contributed by employees. The Teammate Care fund is now operating as expected and employees can begin contributing in early 2026.

Congratulations! AdventHealth is growing.

The North Carolina Supreme Court has declined to take up the final appeal challenging AdventHealth’s Certificate of Need for a new hospital in Weaverville. This decision clears the way for us to move forward with plans to expand access to high quality whole-person care in Western North Carolina.

As this process moves ahead, we also remain focused on the community’s growing needs. A public hearing for AdventHealth’s separate 129-bed Certificate of Need application is scheduled for Tuesday, December 16, providing another opportunity for community input on the future of care in the region.

Employees at AdventHealth Polk participated in the annual gingerbread house competition again this year. Trustees from The Hospital Foundation, Linda Schutter, Tom Trobaugh, Linda Greensfelder, Bill Miller, Ben Ellington, and Juli Haynie chose this year's winner. 3rd place - Pink Ribbon House - was created by Darby Craig, 2nd place - After Helene - was created by Foothills Medical, 1st Place & People's Choice - High Rise- was created by AdventHealth Polk's Environmental Services. Congratulations to all of our winners, and thank you to everyone who participated.

Earlier this year, AdventHealth Polk and The Hospital Foundation celebrated the accomplishment of long-time volunteer and benefactor, Ms. Mary Duncan. Today we ask you to keep Mary's family and friends in your prayers as they cope with her passing. Mary's warm smile and friendly greeting were a blessing to everyone she met.
