John McCutcheon has 40+ years of experience in mental health, addictions and healing arts and went on to open a private practice in Columbus’ Short North Arts District in 1997. An established artist and gallerist as well, John added an on-site fine arts gallery to his wellness services business in 2002 and currently offers six exhibitions per year featuring works by select emerging, mid-career and established artists all having an Ohio connection. A New Jersey native, McCutcheon recieved a BFA degree from the Columbus College of Art and Design in 1979, then in 1981 returned to NJ for the first five years of his own recovery while going on to achieve full-time mental health and addictions employment and extensive studies (1983-86). John and his new bride Cathy relocated to Columbus in September 1986 for John’s Ohio State University MFA in sculpture studies and a part-time hospital inpatient position treating individuals with mental health and addiction comorbidity. Following grad school John created artwork part-time while working full time in the development of a nationally-awarded Community Mental Center treatment team first as a counselor/case manager and then as the team leader from 1988-97. He left the community mental health center to open his own private practice which continues to be in business today.
