One of the most meaningful parts of working in this field is helping adults with disabilities find employment within their community. A job is more than a paycheck - it creates opportunities for independence, confidence, purpose, and connection.
We asked our Kokomo region's Coordinator of Employment Services, Lauren, about what motivated her to work with the population DSI serves in helping them find employment.
Lauren said she was motivated by her passion of helping people and making a difference in their lives because everyone deserves to feel valued and included in their community. "In this field, we support individuals as they pursue employment and become valuable contributors to their workplace and communities - helping them build purpose, independence, and inclusion".
Inclusive employment matters. When businesses open their doors and communities offer support, everyone benefits.
Lauren speaks on how confidence increases with community employment and how it's exciting to see individuals thrive when they are working.
