HCBS stands for Home and Community-Based Services. HCBS refers to a range of supports that help people with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) live, work, and participate fully in their communities rather than in institutional settings. These services may include personal care, skill-building, employment support, transportation, and help with daily living—tailored to each person’s needs and goals.
At the heart of HCBS is choice and independence. By focusing on community inclusion and person-centered support, HCBS empowers people with IDD to live in homes they choose, build meaningful relationships, and take part in everyday community life.
