Advances in technology continue to reshape how individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities receive support, opening the door to more personalized and empowering care. Tools such as communication devices, wearable safety monitors, and adaptive equipment are giving individuals greater independence and more control over their daily lives. These innovations also help direct support professionals work more efficiently by streamlining documentation, improving care coordination, and providing real-time insights into a person’s needs and progress. As technology evolves, its role in enhancing quality of life—while preserving dignity, autonomy, and inclusion—will only continue to grow.
