Mount Carmel East nurse Ashley Lantto spoke up about unsafe staffing, delayed care, and patients being put at risk. She started talking to colleauges about unionizing.

Hospital executives fired her. Then they fired her husband.

This is retaliation. It is illegal. ❌ Unfair labor practice charges have been filed.⚖️

Mount Carmel East is trying to silence nurses who speak up for patients. 🤫

Nurses aren't just leaders in healthcare, they're leaders in their communities. Shoutout to Registered Nurses Association of University of Cincinnati Medical Center leadership for taking a stand against the privatization of community property!

“Feeding people isn’t a misuse of public space or is not a misuse of a park. I think it’s actually the perfect use of a park.” ✊❤️‍🩹

Plans for a $7.2M upgrade to Cincinnati's oldest park aim to expand green space, but some residents fear the changes could threaten community outreach opportunities.

🚨IMPORTANT UPDATE ON CE TIMELINE CHANGES 🚨

Thank you to the hundreds of nurses who reached out to the Board of Nursing to ask about their recent changes to the CE timeframes!

Thanks to your efforts and the public pressure we all applied, the Board has finally added information to its website about the change, https://nursing.ohio.gov/podcast-and-media/all-news/changes-to-the-definition-of-reporting-period-for-continuing-education-ce

While the Board acknowledges that the rule is already in effect, it is choosing to not apply the new rule to LPNs until 2028, meaning that LPNs can continue earning CE through October 31 when renewing their licenses this year.

RNs: please plan to complete your CE by June 30, 2027 before renewing your license.

Again, thank you for speaking up and demanding better from the Board! We are stronger together. ✊

The Ohio Board of Nursing changed the timelines during which licensed nurses can earn continuing education (CE) hours.

ONA sent a letter to the Board today, demanding they notify all licensed nurses and ensure no nurses are penalized for the Board's lack of communication.

Ohio's nurses deserve better.

‼️ IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CE REQUIREMENTS ‼️

Effective March 26, 2026

The Ohio Board of Nursing has updated the timeframes in which continuing education (CE) may be earned for nurse license renewal. These changes are outlined in OAC 4723-14-01, referred to as "Reporting Period."

What this means for renewals:

LPNs: You must complete all required CE by June 30, 2026 to renew this year.

RNs: You must complete all required CE by June 30, 2027 to renew next year.

New CE earning periods for renewal eligibility:

LPNs: July 1 of even-numbered years through June 30 of the next even-numbered year.

RNs: July 1 of odd-numbered years through June 30 of the next odd-numbered year.

Important transition year information:

We asked the Ohio Board of Nursing whether these date changes apply retroactively. The answer was no.

For LPNs renewing in 2026:
Only CE earned between November 1, 2024 and June 30, 2026 may be used for this renewal.

For RNs renewing in 2027:
Only CE earned between November 1, 2025 and June 30, 2027 may be used for renewal.

Nurses Week recognizes the profound impact nurses have on patient care, the healthcare system, and communities. 🏥

The Ohio State University Medical Center is "celebrating" Nurses Week by talking to highly trained lifesaving professionals like they're kindergarteners.

It's condescending, belittling, and disrespectful.

ONA demands OSU do better. Because nurses deserve so much better. 💝

🚨 Nurses & Health Professionals: Join Us for Lobby Day – April 30 at the Statehouse 🚨

Safe staffing is on the agenda—but it’s not the only thing you can fight for.

At Lobby Day, you’ll have the opportunity to meet directly with your legislators and their staff to advocate for:

✅ Safe patient care and staffing reforms (HB 521 / HB 535 / SB 373)
✅ Workplace protections and policies impacting your practice
✅ And if you like, Coverage for GLP-1 medications for public employees, helping address chronic conditions like obesity and improve long-term health outcomes

This is your chance to have real conversations about the issues that impact your patients, your profession, and your future.

We’ll make sure you’re prepared, confident, and supported every step of the way—whether it’s your first time or you’re a seasoned advocate.
💬 Your voice matters.
🏛️ Your presence makes an impact.

ONA members at Metro Behavioral Health Nurses Union are at the bargaining table fighting for their first contract. ✊

It won’t be easy—but they will get it done.

They’re fighting for what every nurse and healthcare professional deserves:
• Safe staffing
• Safe workplaces
• Fair wages to retain and recruit

This is what collective power looks like.
