Today, we honor the power of unity, fairness, and collective action and recognize that social justice in healthcare starts with health professionals. 🩺💙

Safe staffing isn’t a luxury; it’s a necessity. Protecting health professionals from workplace violence isn’t optional; it’s essential. Every person deserves a safe environment to provide the quality care our communities rely on.

When we advocate for safe staffing and an end to workplace violence, we’re standing up for patients, families, and the future of healthcare. Together, we can spark change, uplift one another, and build workplaces rooted in dignity and respect.

Raise your voice. Commit to justice in healthcare. ✊

ONA has sent a letter to Nationwide Children’s Hospital CEO Timothy C. Robinson, demanding the removal of any building names or recognitions connected to Les Wexner, Abigail Wexner, or individuals tied to Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

Children’s hospitals must put child safety above donor relationships. There is no gray area.

Children’s safety comes first. Always.

A gun fired inside Baptist Health Louisville is a failure of safety — period.

Healthcare workers should not have to wonder if they’ll make it home after their shift. Workplace violence in healthcare is escalating, and it is unacceptable in every state.

The Ohio Nurses Association will keep pushing for real protections and safer workplaces for all. We will not back down.

She barricaded herself in the room, where police then called in hostage negotiators and SWAT.

Throughout , ONA is featuring trailblazing Black nurses who helped make the field what it is today. Today, we feature Estelle Massey Osborne was a pioneering nurse and educator and the first African American to earn a master’s degree in nursing. Her work as a teacher, consultant, and leader helped lift racial barriers in nursing education and opened doors for many Black nurses into academic and leadership roles.

Nurses and health professionals are trained to recognize abuse and required to act when they see the signs—even when reporting the abuse is uncomfortable or tied to powerful figures.

That is why ONA is calling on Ohio State to remove the Wexner name from its buildings and medical facilities.

“When an institution dedicated to healing carries the name of someone so closely associated with a man who systematically preyed on children, survivors see that name every day,” said ONA President Rick Lucas. “For many, it is not neutral. It is retraumatizing.”

The union said Wexner's documented relationship with Jeffrey Epstein raises "serious concerns that cannot be brushed aside as historical footnotes"

We applaud State Representative Christine Cockley's op-ed in today's Dispatch, which calls for accountability and culture change where it’s long overdue.

We’ve seen firsthand how unsafe systems hurt workers and the people they serve. That’s why we also appreciate Rep. Cockley’s co-sponsorship of important safe staffing legislation, House Bill 521 — because real culture change means protecting patients and the nurses who care for them.

Check out my new op ed with in the Columbus Dispatch.

🚨URGENT NEWS🚨: Unfair labor practice charges have been filed after Mount Carmel East fired a nurse who spoke up about unsafe patient care.

When nurses and health professionals raise concerns about patient care—including chronic understaffing, unanswered call lights, delayed medications, and patients boarding in ER hallways—hospital leadership needs to listen. Instead, they retaliated.

We mourn the passing of Rev. Jesse Jackson, a relentless champion for civil rights, workers, and economic justice. He built powerful coalitions rooted in solidarity and proved that collective action can move our nation closer to equality. His lifelong fight for dignity and opportunity strengthens our own commitment to justice on the job and in our communities. We honor his legacy by continuing the struggle.

WASHINGTON—AFT President Randi Weingarten, Secretary-Treasurer Fedrick Ingram and Executive Vice President Evelyn DeJesus issued the following statement on the passing of civil rights leader and the founder of the Rainbow PUSH Coalition, the Honorable Reverend Jesse Louis Jackson Sr.:

As rolls on, we’re thrilled to honor Adah Belle Thoms, pioneering nurse, educator, and organizer who helped found the National Association of Colored Graduate Nurses and served as its president. She fought for Black nurses to serve in the Red Cross and U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War I, breaking down barriers in professional nursing and service.
