The Columbus Medical Association Foundation is excited to welcome Miriam El‑Rif, MD, to its Board of Trustees!

Dr. El‑Rif serves as an internal medicine physician at COPC Internal Medicine Group, is a dedicated CMA Member, and is a 2025 graduate of the Physicians Leadership Academy — bringing both clinical insight and leadership experience to the Foundation.

Last month, the CMA Foundation’s Youth Council awarded grant funding to NC4K and LifeCare Alliance.

A previous awardee, NC4K was given $2,000 to support basic needs of families with children experiencing cancer. Supports include expenses relating to rent payments, utility bills, gas for transportation, and groceries.

LifeCare Alliance was awarded $2,000 to fund their youth diabetes camp. Year after year, the Council chooses to fund this camp because of their dedication to empowering young people in their health journey.

These grants demonstrate the Youth Council’s commitment to shaping real progress for their peers in areas related to health and wellness.

We applaud these students for their leadership and the significant contributions they’re making throughout Columbus!

The Columbus Medical Association Foundation is grateful to our team for generously supporting our community through the Staff Charitable Fund.

Each year, staff contributions collected throughout the fourth quarter are distributed to local nonprofits that align with the causes our team cares about most.

Together, we were able to support Highland Youth Garden, MASH Pantry Delaware, Ohio, Hope House of Pickaway County, Little Bottoms Free Store, and The Covering in 2025.

Thank you to every staff member who contributed! Your commitment continues to make a meaningful difference for our neighbors in central Ohio.

Meet CMA Member Corey Beals, MD, FAAOS, Orthopedic Sports Medicine & Shoulder Surgeon at Orthopedic One.

Dr. Beals was inspired to pursue medicine after helping his family coordinate care for both of his grandmothers. Seeing how much of a difference medical professionals made in their lives set him on a path to do the same for others.

“Improvement in our field is never-ending,” he shares. “I believe progress often happens when people across subspecialties collaborate.”

Today, Dr. Beals specializes in ACL repair and reconstruction, cartilage restoration, rotator cuff pathology, and shoulder arthroplasty. He also helps to care for the Columbus Crew!

As Ohio marks Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 15–21, 2026 and many in our area are cleaning up after recent storms, the Columbus Medical Association is spotlighting the critical role of readiness across our medical community.

The reality is severe weather—and all types of emergencies—can happen with little warning.

Preparedness drills ensure that when seconds count, our physicians, responders, and care teams are ready.

The Southeast/Southeast Central Ohio Healthcare Coalition (SEOHC) recently held a full-scale emergency drill involving dozens of hospitals and other agencies to practice the coordinated response to many severe weather-related emergencies.
