Obituary For Robert Young Russick
Robert Young Russick
October 14, 1954 – February 17, 2026
Robert “Bob” Young Russick passed away on February 17, 2026, at the age of 71. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and loyal friend, Bob lived a life defined by quiet service, deep love for his family, and steady dedication to whatever was placed in his hands.
Bob proudly served in the United States Navy from August 16, 1973, until his honorable discharge on February 7, 1983. As a Petty Officer First Class and Interior Communications Electrician, he served nearly a decade at sea aboard the USS Plymouth Rock and the USS Leahy during the Cold War era. His work maintaining shipboard communication, alarm, and control systems required technical precision, calm under pressure, and unwavering reliability. He was recognized with numerous commendations, including two Good Conduct Medals, the Meritorious Unit Commendation, the Navy Expeditionary Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, and the Navy “E” Ribbon. His service reflected professionalism, discipline, and commitment to mission and crew.
Following his naval career, Bob continued his life of public service as an Analyst with Yolo County, California, serving from 1985 to 2009, including work with the Yolo County Sheriff-Coroner. He also served in the United States Air Force Reserve from 1986 to 1989. In later years, he worked in their long-arm quilting business, Material Handlers Quilting, until shortly before his passing.
Above all, Bob’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 39 years, Gail K. Russick; his children Robert H. Russick, Brian Lilly, and Heather Lilly-Harris; and his cherished grandchildren Jace Lilly, Brett Lilly, Wyatt Harris, Alexia Sarah Lilly-Snyder, and Amara Russick; and great-granddaughter Heidi Claire Snyder. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Lilly, whose memory he carried tenderly in his heart.
Bob was a kind, sensitive, and generous man with a sharp, dry wit that surfaced at just the right moment. He loved cooking for his family, baking bread, studying genealogy, and offering steadfast support in Gail’s quilting work. Dogs, especially the Great Pyrenees he rescued over the years, were constant companions and deeply loved members of the household.
Whether serving his country, supporting his community, or simply standing quietly beside the people he loved, Bob’s life was marked by steadiness, loyalty, and devotion. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he quietly strengthened along the way.
