Obituary For Ramon Arias Lobato
Ramon Arias Lobato returned to the Lord peacefully on March 11, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on March 4, 1944, in Magaz de Abajo, Spain, the eldest son of Hermogenes Arias and Felisa Lobato. As a young man, Ramon proudly served 18 months in the Spanish military, a time he often reflected on as some of the most memorable of his life. He later worked as a truck driver throughout Spain, primarily around Barcelona.
In 1969, Ramon took a courageous leap of faith and came to the United States as a sheepherder and arrived in Yakima, Washington. In 1972, he accepted a position with Plank & Maupin and relocated to Williams, California. In 1975, he met and married his beloved wife, Mayela, and together they built a life and raised their family in Williams.
In 1980, Ramon and his family purchased several thousand heads of sheep and went on to establish RAM Livestock, operating their own sheep ranching business throughout Colusa County and surrounding areas for the next 40 years. During this time, Ramon also owned and operated his own commercial trucking business, hauling livestock and a variety of agricultural commodities.
Ramon was a generous and hardworking man who lived for his family, friends, and community. He was a longtime member of the California Wool Growers Association, a former working member of the Catholic Church, and a dedicated supporter and exempt member of the Williams Fire Department. He often turned a stranger into a friend and was known for his quick wit and many sayings. Ramon was famous for his lamb barbecues. Over the years he barbecued countless events and many people, who once insisted they didn’t like lamb, became lifelong fans once they experienced his cooking.
Ramon was preceded in death by his parents, Hermogenes & Felisa, brother Manolo. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mayela; his daughters, Montserrat (Chad) and Astrid (Benji); and his cherished grandchildren, Branden, Helena, Lily, Michael, Evan, and Benjamin "Yoshi". To his grandchildren, he was lovingly known as “Yayo”, his most treasured title, and one he carried with immense pride, joy, and unconditional love.
Services will be held on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 345 Oak Street, Colusa, CA. The Rosary will begin at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Williams Cemetery, with a luncheon to follow at the Williams Fire Department, 810 E Street, Williams, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Williams Fire Protection Authority, 810 E Street, Williams, CA 95987.
