Obituary For Lyle Wayne Charter
Lyle Wayne Charter was born May 4, 1932, in Arbuckle, CA to Halbert D. and Marie A. (Kull) Charter. Known for his incomparable quick wit, countless individuals knew him as the "Cowboy Poet Laureate of Colusa County." Many say he was born "100 years too late" – but this life-long, hardworking almond, olive, and walnut farmer was also an authentic muleskinner, who lived life to the fullest, and leaves behind a lasting legacy. Lyle died peacefully April 17, 2026, after a brief illness.

His second home was anywhere there was a set of mountains where he could take a pack string of mules and a fly-fishing rod. He and his wife of nearly 60 years, Laurie, spent many years volunteering with the California Fish and Wildlife Service and the Back Country Horsemen of California to plant trout in high-country lakes. Other organizations who received his valuable time include the Free and Accepted Masons - Colusa Lodge No. 240, the Arbuckle Community Church, and the Arbuckle 4-H Club.

Lyle knew no strangers and would strike up conversations with anyone. He could educate them on everything from WWII history to how to shoe a horse or recite the most side-splittingly funny cowboy poem – and as his body became weak, his mind remained very sound. Though he only had a high school education (and if asked where he went to college, he would tell you, "the School of Hard Knocks"), Lyle was a gifted craftsman and could fabricate the most complex projects, including farm equipment and tools, wagons for mules and horses to pull, horse trailers, or spurs, bits and bridals, rarely even putting the plans down on paper. These talents were passed down through multiple generations of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, Lyle was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Charter, sister-in-law Mary (Young) Charter, and his granddaughter Holly Moorhead. He leaves behind his wife, Laurie, daughter Christine Charter Moorhead, son Jeffrey (Debbie) Charter, son Erick Charter, and daughter Kate (Cecil) Smith, as well as sisters Evelyn Jansen and Lorraine Davis. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was truly a devoted family man.

The last goodbye's the hardest one to say ... this is where the cowboy rides away. Happy trails, cowboy!

Graveside services will take place at the Arbuckle Cemetery on April 29, 2026 at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Arbuckle Fire Department, the Arbuckle Community Church, or the charity of your choice.

Obituary For Alan Bradford Dell
Al was larger (and louder) than life with his boisterous voice and quick wit. He enjoyed duck hunting, fishing, camping, bonfires, movies, gardening, painting and spending time with friends laughing at (and with) others

Born in Chico to Betty Jean and Bradford Benjamin Dell, he moved to Vallejo, CA in 1966. At 16 years old in 1968, he started working at Mare Island under a program that helped him obtain his GED and provided him with training as an Electrician, working as a civilian for the Navy in the shipyard. He worked on the crew of the infamous submarine USS Guitarro that sank in the bay pier side during initial testing, this drew national attention and they won the Flying Fickle Finger of Fate award on the TV show Laugh In. Al worked on Mare Island until retiring in 1993. Upon retirement, he moved to Princeton and managed the trailer court for several years. Being caretaker of the trailer court allowed him to spend time duck hunting and on the Sacramento River fishing, while also being unofficial mayor of the bonfire, as his home was right in the middle of the trailer court where several sportsmen came and stayed

for the season.

Al had 3 wives and celebrated 4 marriages, marrying one wife twice. He married his high school sweetheart (Hazel in 1968) and had a son, Richard Alan Dell. Al came into this authors life when he relocated to Princeton and met the authors grandmother, making Jane Dell his 4th wife. They were friends long before they got married in 2002 and kept separate homes in Princeton up until only about 6 years ago, which both joked was the secret of a happy marriage.

Al enjoyed gardening and set up a huge garden that supplied the whole town with vegetables. Al was a meticulous note taker; he took tangible notes on neon colored 3x5 cards about everything and was very organized. His notes ranged from his health stats, his to-do lists, to his painting; he cataloged every painting he finished with the date finished, the material used, the awards received, and who he gifted it to. He also had them numbered in chronological order. Al enjoyed staying curious his whole life through, he was a voracious reader and was always learning something new.

Al is survived by his son, stepdaughter Tina (Ben) Gordon, stepson Joe (Audrey) Young, grandchildren Courtney Jimenez and Richard Dell Jr, and 3 great grandchildren, along with his brothers Dan Hogan and Terry Kerp, and sister Chrisy Frickstead.

Al will be interred to rest at the Princeton Cemetery on May 8, 2026 at 10am.

Above all, Bob’s greatest pride was his family. He is survived by his beloved wife and soulmate of 39 years, Gail K. Russick; his children Robert H. Russick, Brian Lilly, and Heather Lilly-Harris; and his cherished grandchildren Jace Lilly, Brett Lilly, Wyatt Harris, Alexia Sarah Lilly-Snyder, and Amara Russick; and great-granddaughter Heidi Claire Snyder. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Sarah Lilly, whose memory he carried tenderly in his heart.

Bob was a kind, sensitive, and generous man with a sharp, dry wit that surfaced at just the right moment. He loved cooking for his family, baking bread, studying genealogy, and offering steadfast support in Gail’s quilting work. Dogs, especially the Great Pyrenees he rescued over the years, were constant companions and deeply loved members of the household.

Whether serving his country, supporting his community, or simply standing quietly beside the people he loved, Bob’s life was marked by steadiness, loyalty, and devotion. His legacy lives on in the family he cherished and the many lives he quietly strengthened along the way.
