We had a wonderful time celebrating Earth Day here at Gurwin Assisted Living Residents got creative designing their own custom tote bags, while enjoying festive treats like dirt pudding, Earth Day cookies, and fresh veggies with hummus.

A special highlight of the day was welcoming Lenny, the son of one of our residents, who shared his insights on sustainability and how his work as an architect helps protect our environment.

Moments like these remind us how small actions and meaningful conversations can make a big difference for our planet.

Garden season is officially underway at Gurwin Jewish - Fay J. Lindner Residences! Our assisted living residents are already getting their hands in the soil—shovels out and smiles on—as we kick off garden cleanup and prep the flower beds for planting.

This year looks like it’s going to be a beautiful vegetable garden, and we can’t wait to watch it grow and flourish together. Stay tuned for all the green-thumb magic ahead!

Our April cover model is our strong and inspiring Ruth Eulau — a 101-year-old resident at Gurwin Assisted Living and one of the original volunteers at Gurwin Nursing Home when it opened in 1988.

Ruth left Germany with her family in 1934, fearing for their safety, and settled in Hudson, NY with the help of her aunt and uncle, who sponsored more than 125 individuals to come to America before the start of World War II. Her inspirational advice, “Help Others,” is the perfect reminder that kindness is a choice we can make each and every day, even in the face of challenges by focusing on compassion, connection and giving back.
