Common question: Why are we giving my kid a tablet and more screen time? We understand… AAC can feel confusing and overwhelming at first.
Let’s clear a few things up:
⁃ AAC is not meant to replace speech and language
⁃ AAC will not prevent the progression of speech and language
⁃ It’s should not be viewed as screen time
⁃ We recommend AAC to increase access to communication!
Some children cannot access or consistently access speech and language due to motor, sensory, and linguistic difficulties. AAC (augmentative and alternative communication) provides access to communication when the body is unable to produce speech and language.
The earlier we support communication, the better the outcomes. Always.
