Absolutely Beautiful ❤️

"Many women of my generation were taught that motherhood is a setback, ambition a race run by male rules. Instead of questioning the standard, we reject motherhood itself. In mistaking equality for imitation, we forgot this truth: womanhood carries its own power, unmeasured by men, untouched by stereotypes." - Maya Johnson

✨ Our first "A Room of Her Own" highlight is artist Maya Johnson. Maya Johnson is a ceramicist and sculptor from Plains, Georgia, who earned her BFA in Sculpture and Ceramics with a minor in Philosophy from the University of Georgia in 2025. She currently lives and works in Gainesville, Georgia, out of her home studio. Johnson has also worked as a studio assistant for artists Sunkoo Yuh and Keaton Wynn. Johnson’s work engages the ceramic medium conceptually, exploring the human condition through her personal relationships, faith, and experiences of womanhood in the American South

✨A Room of Her Own is a group exhibition staged annually at the Albany Area Arts Council allowing selected female artists to curate and show their work through the duration of Women's History Month. Please join us for the opening reception and celebrate the unique work and perspectives these women bring to the table!

📅 Opening Reception: Thursday, March 19th from 6–8 PM
📍 215 N. Jackson St., Albany, GA 31701.

The exhibition will be on view March 19 - April 30, 2026, during gallery hours Monday–Thursday, 12–4 PM (or by appointment).
