Oh the shenanigans in Louisville! We had such an amazing time learning, growing as a team, and celebrating Jess’ induction as a COVT. It was a derby theme so excuse the crazy hats. So grateful we are together in helping our patients! Can’t wait to bring some new ideas and techniques home to New Hampshire!

Inspire Vision will be closed Thursday (4/23) and Friday (4/24) as staff and Dr. Radakovic are away at a conference! We will be open for regular business hours on Monday 4/27!

Vision Exams for Autistic Patients

Methods for evaluating the vision of autistic people will vary depending on individual levels of emotional and physical development. Testing is often done while the patient is asked to perform specific activities while wearing special lenses. For example, observations of the patient's postural adaptations and compensations will be made as they sit, walk, stand, catch and throw a ball, etc. Such tests help to determine how the autistic person is seeing and how they can be helped.

Treatment to Improve Quality of Life

After a comprehensive exam has identified whether vision problems are present, treatment can start. The goals of treatment may be to help the autistic patient to:

-Organize visual space
-Gain peripheral stability
-Attend to and appreciate central vision
-Gain more efficient eye coordination
-Improve visual information processing

Achieving these goals can help the autistic person to feel less overwhelmed by visual stimuli and to interact with the world more comfortably.

Depending on the results of testing, lenses to compensate for nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism may be prescribed. Vision therapy activities can be used to stimulate general visual arousal, eye movements, and the central visual system.

Many COVD doctors are experienced in examining and treating autistic people as well as other developmentally delayed or non-verbal individuals.

Today and every day, we recognize that autism is not something to be “fixed,
” but a different
way of experiencing and interacting with the world.
Autistic people are friends, colleagues, family members, innovators, creators, and leaders.
Acceptance means listening to autistic voices, challenging stereotypes, and making sure our
environments are truly inclusive—at school, at work, and in our communities.
Let’s move beyond awareness and commit to genuine acceptance, respect, and support.

At Inspire Vision, we always encourage our patients to look on the brighter side of things- even when it may seem like everything is turned upside down. Here’s a review from one of our former patients:

“Dr. Radakovic and Jessica are absolutly amazing. So caring and understanding in every way! My vision has greatly improved since my fall down the stairs almost 4 years ago. I went to many other doctors for my vision and brain injury but none were competent, I wish I would have found them sooner but so glad I have them now they will truly help you to recover. I'm such a believer in what they do.”

Join me in my efforts to support Autism Speaks!
I am raising funds to support a cause that is important to me while accomplishing a personal goal.

My beautiful son, Wally, is on the Autism spectrum and has accomplished so much despite these challenges.
Autism Speaks is dedicated to promoting solutions, across the spectrum to and throughout the lifespan, for the needs of individuals with autism and their families through advocacy and support; increasing understanding and acceptance of autism spectrum disorder; and advancing research into causes and better interventions for autism spectrum disorder and related conditions. They empower people with autism and their families with resources, online tools and information covering the life span.

Autism Speaks enhances lives today and is accelerating a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.
Thank you for helping me reach my goal. Your support is greatly appreciated!
