I see lots of posts where parents are using the term "non-verbal" and to honest... I cringe a little. As a strengths-based based therapist, who presumes competence... I prefer using the term "non-speaking." Most of my clients are able to communicate in other ways. Their comprehension is pretty strong, but they don't use a lot of mouth words.
