Residents Ted and Jan "playing in the mud" - one of their favorite activities at Newbury Court, and one they made possible for the whole community. After moving to Newbury Court, Ted was given the idea to create an Empty Bowls project. Ted and fellow residents teamed up with The Umbrella Arts Center to handcraft more than 400 beautiful and creative bowls.

At a community-wide Concord luncheon, the bowls were purchased and auctioned off with proceeds donated to Open Table, the local food pantry. It was a huge success and brought the community closer together. Jan says, “Ceramics is not my hobby, but the interaction, helping residents even though they had never done anything like that before, was wonderful. Some people started coming down just to be a part of that interaction.”

Thank you, Ted and Jan!

Through the generosity of the Newbury Court Residents’ Scholarship Association, 15+ dedicated staff members received scholarships to support their educational and career goals.

The recipients are all current employees of Newbury Court, working across eleven departments: Front of House, development, dining services, memory care, skilled nursing, rehab, resident health services, building services, fitness, marketing, and human resources. Their scholarships will help these employees to earn certifications and degrees from both public and private universities.

Committee Chair Sally Nash, described the purpose of the Resident’s Association Scholarship Program, “Twice a year our Newbury Court residents award scholarships to deserving staff members and encourage them to fulfill their academic dreams without the fear of overwhelming debt.”

Congratulations to all! https://newburycourt.org/

Thank you to resident Yuko H. for sharing some thoughts of her experience at Newbury Court! We are very grateful to our residents and colleagues for helping to provide such a welcoming community.

"This place turned out to be greater than my expectations. With its staff members who are always willing to help, wonderful environment and campus that are well-kept, amazing number of programs, and last but not the least are the residents, who are outgoing, interesting, and kind people. I came originally from Japan, then from Minnesota after living there for 46 years. It doesn't matter where we come from, because we are all welcome. I play violin solos in the chapel, but also in a trio and quartet groups. Less than 5 months here, I feel well adjusted and welcomed!!"
