Happy Administrative Professionals Day to the women who keep our office running daily! If you’ve ever called our office, checked in for an appointment, or needed help with something, chances are one of these amazing women was the one helping you. And they don’t just schedule appointments, these women are running our providers’ schedules and keeping the entire office moving. Haven’t you heard? They really do it all.

Jen — the most articulate, the best DJ for our personal singing sessions, always bringing the healthiest snacks, and overall just a lovely front desk girl.

Wendy — the one where if you know, you know. There is no one in the office who doesn’t go to Wendy for help, and there’s nothing she isn’t willing to assist with. While she’s the sweetest, she might also just be the funniest one here.

Jaymie — the nicest girl of them all. Cool as a cucumber and the coolest kid on the block. The one person who will always lend you an ear when you need it… that’s probably why her hair is so long — it’s full of secrets ✨

Chloe — have I mentioned she somehow has four different drinks on her desk at all times? One of the quickest and kindest front desk girls you’ll meet. A real cutie patootie.

Sharoll — we truly can’t have a day without laughter when Sharoll is around. Always snacking and always the kindest when helping patients. She genuinely cares about everyone and has one of the biggest hearts in the office.

Lexi — our hair queen. With years of experience working in medical offices, it shows. Always willing to step in and help when needed and the first to explain things when someone has a question.

Alex — the first to jump in when help is needed, our medical records queen. You’ll always find her chatting with providers, staff, or patients.

Saida — our newest front desk girl! Please help us give this sweet girl a warm welcome.

And of course Kristal, the one who keeps the whole group together and running!

We appreciate everything you do for our patients and our team. Let’s show them some love in the comments 💛

TUBES REMOVED — THE OVARIES STAY.
Yes, really.

This is something many women are surprised to learn.

When the fallopian tubes are removed for permanent birth control, the ovaries remain in place, which means the body continues producing hormones normally and the procedure does not cause menopause.

In this video, Dr. Erin Sienkiewicz, MD, FACOG, introduces a procedure called a bilateral salpingectomy (removal of the fallopian tubes ) which is increasingly recommended both as a form of permanent birth control and as a strategy that may help reduce the risk of ovarian cancer.

This video is part of a new series where our providers answer common questions about women’s health and reproductive care.

Because when it comes to caring for women, who better than women themselves?

Kids have a funny way of telling their birth stories.

Mandie recently shared her experience delivering Lincoln with the AFA OB/GYN team:

"I found AFA after moving to central Mass because I liked that the practice had midwives and a forward approach to women's health. I saw most of the midwives when I was pregnant, but was under the care mainly of Avery and Sherri, with Dr. Strehle as my OBGYN.

I was injured while pregnant, which complicated my mobility and caused me significant pain. My water broke naturally the day before my due date. After about 12 hours in labor, my progress was stalling completely. The nurses adjusted my position and Sherri came to check on me again. She called for a c-section, and Dr. Strehle delivered Lincoln at 2:01 in the morning on his due date.

Lincoln likes to tell people, “She (Dr. Strehle) cut me out of mama with a big knife and that's how she got me!”

When we talked to Sherri the next day, she said she felt something wasn’t right and it was time to call it to keep us both safe. When we saw Dr. Strehle afterward, she skipped around with Lincoln and told him he looked like me.

I am very thankful for the wonderful care I received and for my healthy beautiful boy."

— Mandie

Massachusetts is consistently ranked among the best states in the country for maternity care.

Hospitals across the state regularly lead national rankings — including Emerson Hospital’s Birthing Center just outside Boston, which has been named one of America’s Best Maternity Hospitals by Newsweek and recognized by U.S. News & World Report for Maternity Care.

Emerson also provides advanced newborn support through its Level II Special Care Nursery, offering specialized monitoring and care for babies who need extra attention after birth. Supported by neonatology specialists affiliated with Massachusetts General Hospital.

At AFA OB/GYN, our patients receive the personalized care of a private, women-led practice while delivering at a nationally recognized maternity hospital.

And the team delivering that care? Our providers have been recognized as Boston Top Doctors. Because exceptional care isn't something we aim for. It's the standard we're held to.

Private practice care, where your provider already knows your name. Nationally recognized maternity care, right here in our community.

1 in 10 women has endometriosis.
The average diagnosis takes 10 years.

Ten years of being told “this is normal.”

It isn’t.

If you’ve ever been dismissed, minimized, or sent home without answers, this post is for you.

Pelvic pain.
Heavy periods.
Cycles that are completely unpredictable.

These are some of the most common things patients come to us for, and also some of the most commonly dismissed symptoms in women’s health.

If you’ve ever been told:
“That’s just how periods are” or “It’s probably just stress,” please know this:

Painful periods are not normal. Heavy bleeding is not something you just live with. Irregular cycles are your body asking for attention.

Some conditions these symptoms can signal:

• Endometriosis: affects 1 in 10 women. Diagnosis takes an average of 10 years and can impact fertility, mental health, and quality of life.

• Uterine fibroids: affect 70–80% of women by age 50 and can cause heavy bleeding and pelvic pressure.

• PCOS: affects 1 in 8 women and impacts hormones, metabolism, skin, mood, and fertility.

• Perimenopause: can begin in your late 30s, affecting sleep, mood, libido, bone density, and heart health.

• Abnormal uterine bleeding: one of the most common reasons women see an OB-GYN and always worth investigating.

You don’t have to figure this out alone.
You don’t have to minimize what you’re feeling to seem “less dramatic.” And you don’t have to wait until your annual visit to talk about it.

AFA OBGYN is currently accepting new patients.

A high-risk IVF pregnancy during an already uncertain time, and she felt safe the whole way through.

Molly trusted Dr. Sienkiewicz and the AFA team with one of the most important moments of her life. What could have been an incredibly stressful journey became one defined by unwavering support.

Who better to guide a woman through moments like these than another woman herself?

AFA is proud to be an all-women practice dedicated to caring for our patients like Molly. Thank you Molly for trusting Dr. Sienkiewicz and the entire AFA family. 💙
