🌼💀 Happy Día de los Mu***os! 💀🌼
Here in Contra Costa County, this colorful tradition fills our communities with remembrance and joy. It’s a time to honor those who came before us — just as we do through genealogy — by keeping their names, stories, and spirits alive. 🕯️✨

This morning, a magnitude 3.1 earthquake rattled near Berkeley — a small jolt, but one that makes us pause and remember that the earth beneath us is always moving.
Back on October 17, 1989, at 5:04 p.m., the Bay Area was hit by the Loma Prieta earthquake (magnitude ~6.9). It changed lives, collapsed freeways, and reshaped our region’s history.
This year, marks the 36th anniversary, and we pause in memory, respect, and humble awareness.
Share with us — what’s your memory or story connected to Loma Prieta?

CCCGS friends — the skies are putting on a show tonight! On October 6, 2025, we will witness a Harvest Moon, and this year it’s no ordinary full moon — it’s also a supermoon.
What makes this moon special:
• The “Harvest Moon” is defined as the full moon closest to the autumnal equinox (which occurred on September 22). In 2025, the full moon on October 6 is slightly closer to the equinox than September’s moon, giving it the title.
• As a supermoon, the moon is at or near its closest approach to Earth (perigee), which makes it appear a bit larger and brighter than a typical full moon.
• The full phase peaks around 11:47 p.m. Eastern Time / 8:47 p.m. Pacific.
Viewing tips
• Watch for moonrise in the east shortly after sunset — the moon may appear with warm tones (golden, amber) near the horizon.
• Choose a spot with a clear eastern horizon and minimal light pollution.
• A good pair of binoculars or a telephoto lens can enhance details like crater shadows and lunar “seas.”
• Photograph during the first 15–20 minutes after moonrise — that’s when atmospheric color effects and “moon illusion” (the moon seeming especially large near the horizon) are strongest.

If you get a crisp photo tonight, share it with us in the comments — we’d love to see how the Harvest Supermoon looks from your corner of the CCCGS community.

Happy moon-watching! 🌙
