During Black History Month, we honor Lois Curtis — a self-advocate whose courage changed history.

Because of her role in the landmark Supreme Court decision Olmstead v. L.C., people with intellectual and developmental disabilities have the right to live, work, and thrive in their communities — not institutions.

Her story reminds us that one voice can change systems. One voice can change laws. One voice can change lives.

Today, we continue that legacy through action. Join The Arc New York’s statewide calling campaign to protect critical funding and ensure community inclusion remains a civil right — not just a promise.

When we raise our voices together, change happens.

🚨 NOW is the time to act for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. 🚨
The next two weeks are critical as New York State legislators work toward releasing their one‑house budget bills — and we need YOUR voice.

We’re calling on our community to help reach a goal of 5,000 calls statewide urging lawmakers to:
✔️ Support people with IDD
✔️ Invest in the workforce that supports them
✔️ Include the full 2.7% Targeted Inflationary Increase (TII) in the NYS budget

Right now, only a handful of calls have been reported. Together, we can do better — and we must.

📞 What you can do:

Call your NYS Senator and Assemblymember
Ask them to include the full 2.7% TII in their one‑house budget bills
Report your call so it can be counted toward our shared goal https://forms.office.com/pages/responsepage.aspx?id=w-7ej_BnSka0zwN5tpfOHnhjen7AkDRPqXelCR9-1LBUQTVYQk0wVk1NTU8zQzdEWjBNSDZZRkdVSS4u&route=shorturl

Calls can be made any day — even nights and weekends — and every call matters.
👉 Let’s pull out all the stops and make our voices heard.

Please take action today and share this post to help spread the word.

Thank you to Jawonio for hosting the 2026 NYS Legislative Forum.

We were especially proud to have our Self-Advocacy President, along with Bob Cooper- a parent, advocate, and community leader- to share powerful remarks on the importance of investing in people and the workforce that supports them. These voices are what move the conversation forward.

Thank you to the elected officials who joined us and continue to champion our community.

The momentum continues — we hope to see you at Rally in the Valley on March 13.

We’re one month away from Rally in the Valley, and the momentum is already building!

This week, advocates were in Albany raising their voices, meeting with leaders, and pushing for the resources our community deserves. Now we bring that energy home.

Join us on March 13 as we continue the movement locally.

The Arc Rockland

We will make available to individuals with developmental disabilities circumstances and opportunities that will lead to an ever-improving quality of life which will allow them to participate fully in society's mainstream.

Thus, we will continually strive to provide programs, services and supports through which individuals can gain maximum effectiveness in the world in which they live; and we will continually seek to ensure and protect those meaningful situations which provide them with dignity, pride in their abilities, a sense of accomplishment and the respect of society.

Strong roots—conceived more than 60 years ago by a small group of dedicated parents, today The Arc provides supports and services to more than 1200 people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities from infancy through the senior years. In areas of education, employment, housing and recreation, The Arc Rockland ensures that people are full members of the broader community. A staff of more than 650 professionals help to create a lifetime of abilities for the people in our care. A volunteer Board of Directors and a volunteer Foundation Board are integral aspects of The Arc.
