Retired K9 Officer Thor was laid to rest on October 21, 2025.

Born in March 2013 in Hungary, Thor joined the Conroe Police Department in late 2015 and was proudly partnered with Officer Sutton. Together, they served the community with loyalty and determination, contributing to numerous drug seizures and dozens of arrests over the years.

After retiring in 2022, Thor enjoyed his well-deserved rest at home with Officer Sutton and his family, where he was loved and cared for every day.

K9 Thor will always be remembered for his courage, loyalty, and unwavering dedication to his partner and the citizens of Conroe. Rest in Peace, K9 Thor💙🐾

Join us in congratulating the new Assistant Fire Chief Matt Perkins on his recent promotion.

Assistant Fire Chief Matt Perkins currently serves as the Assistant Fire Chief for the City of Conroe Fire Department, a role he assumed on October 6, 2025. In this position, Chief Perkins provides executive leadership to support the department’s operational readiness, strategic planning, and community safety initiatives.

Prior to this appointment, Chief Perkins served as the department’s Deputy Chief and Fire Marshal, having been promoted to that position on July 23, 2023. As Fire Marshal, he directed all fire prevention activities, including public education and outreach, fire and building code enforcement, fire origin and cause investigations, and arson case management. He also led and supervised a highly skilled team of four Lieutenant Deputy Fire Marshals assigned to the Fire Marshal’s Office (FMO), ensuring effective oversight of the city’s fire prevention and investigation programs.

Chief Perkins began his career with the Conroe Fire Department on July 9, 2001, serving as a firefighter for six years. His leadership potential was quickly recognized, and on November 12, 2007, he was promoted to Lieutenant, a role in which he spent 16 years as a trusted company officer in Operations, mentoring crews and managing emergency response readiness.

Throughout his career, Assistant Chief Perkins has demonstrated unwavering dedication to public safety, operational excellence, and community service. His broad experience, from frontline firefighting to senior leadership, uniquely positions him to advance the department’s mission and continue protecting the residents and businesses of Conroe.
