Family life isn’t always easy—especially when past hurts, miscommunication, or unresolved emotions get in the way. If it feels like you’re constantly walking on eggshells or struggling to connect, you’re not alone. Healing takes time, but it’s possible.

Our family counseling services provide a safe space to work through tough conversations, rebuild trust, and learn healthier ways to communicate. You don’t have to figure it all out on your own—we’re here to help. We offer individual, family, play therapy for little ones, and group counseling throughout the week. The center is staffed with licensed professionals, interns, and students dedicated to seeing each client reach his or her goals.

As the days get shorter and cooler, it’s important to be mindful of how the change in seasons can impact our mental health. Here are a few tips to help you stay grounded and emotionally well during the fall and winter months:

1. 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐒𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐖𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐘𝐨𝐮 𝐂𝐚𝐧: Natural light boosts mood, so try to soak up sunlight during the day, even if it’s just for a few minutes.
2. 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐲 𝐀𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞: Movement, whether it's a walk outside or indoor exercise, helps improve mental clarity and releases feel-good endorphins.
3. 𝐌𝐚𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: The colder months can feel isolating, so stay connected with loved ones. A phone call or a cup of coffee with a friend can lift your spirits.
4. 𝐋𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐨 𝐘𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐅𝐚𝐢𝐭𝐡: Spend time in prayer, scripture, or worship to find comfort and peace in God’s presence.

When something triggers you—an argument, a harsh word, a disappointment—your body often wants to react right away. That’s part of being human. But healing begins when we learn to pause before reacting.

Pausing doesn’t mean ignoring what you feel. It means giving your mind and body a moment to breathe, so your response can come from clarity instead of chaos.

In that pause, you are able to ask yourself:
What am I really feeling right now?
What do I need in this moment?
What would a calm, grounded version of me want to say or do?

Choosing to pause instead of react—can transform relationships, communication, and even your relationship with yourself.

What is the difference between depression and sadness?

It can be difficult to distinguish between sadness and depression.

Sadness is a normal emotion that everyone feels. We all experience events in our lie that can trigger sadness such as the death of a loved one. Sadness will come and go and is often temporary. More often than not, sadness will not impact daily life functioning more than a few days to a week (thinking of pet loss...)

Depression on the other hand usually lasts longer than 2 weeks and may not be triggered by a specific event. Depression will significantly interfere with and impact your daily life and ability to function.

Emotions like anxiety, anger, and sadness often get labeled as “bad” or “negative.” But the truth is—they’re not enemies. They’re signals. Each one is trying to get your attention and tell you something important.

Instead of pushing them down or shaming yourself for feeling them, try pausing and asking:
💭 “What is this emotion pointing me toward?”
💭 “What need or boundary is it highlighting?”
💭 “What is this trying to teach me about myself?”

When we listen with curiosity instead of judgment, emotions become guides instead of burdens. They can lead us toward deeper self-awareness, healing, and growth.

It’s incredible how movement impacts the mind. Research shows that even small amounts of activity can reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression, boost your mood, and help you feel more grounded.
