Five Simple Stretches for The Gardeners:

Working in your garden can do wonders for health, but if you don't take time to do some stretches prior to jumping on those weeds you will most likely find yourself very stiff, sore and possibly injuring yourself!

Incorporating some simple stretches for gardeners are easy and gentle for everyone. Take just a few minutes doing these before you head out and tackle those unwanted weeds or planting the seasonal flowers to feel a word of difference.

1.Help to improve length of the muscles in your back, elongation of your spine.

1. Tall like a tree /extend arms up towards the sky

Help to improve length of the muscles in the back of your legs and low back.

2.Touch your toes( the earth)

Helps to improve range of motion and tightness in your shoulders

3.circular arm rotation forwards/backwards

Helps to improve spinal flexibility , warms up your body for strenuous movement.

4.back arches

Help to improve hip flexibility tightness, and range of motion.

5.forward lunges

A little extra care before heading for the rake or hoe can give you more time in the dirt and less time laid up not wanting to move.

Lets talk about the DAMAGING effects of FHP (forward head posture).

Have you every paid attention to yourself and how your posture lines up?
FHP can lead to long term muscle strain, disc herniation, pinched nerves, arthritis, and believe it or not even TMJ tension.
Ideally the head should sit directly on the neck and shoulders! Naturally holding your head forward, out of alignment will certainly put a strain on your neck and upper back muscles. The reaction is fatigued muscles accompanied with a aching neck.
Common causes: Trauma
Computer ergonomics
Backpacks
TV and Video Games
Corrections: For Computer and Video playing it can be as easy as placing monitor height so the top third of the screen is even with your eyes and the monitor is 18" to 24" from your face.

If possibly every 20-30 min. sit up straight and pull your neck and head back over your shoulders. Hold for a count of 3 and do 15-20 reps. Or stand up against the wall with a small pillow at your mid-back. Move your head back to touch the wall. Hold for count of 3, and do 20-25reps.

Now using a backpack should only be 15% the childs weight. Never wear backpack over one arm and use the waist belt if available.

A exercise that can be helpful is to lay face down on the floor and extend your head and shoulders up all while pinching your shoulder blades together. Hold for a count of 3 and do 16-20 reps.

Now this is a small amount of information on FHP, and just a little reminder monitoring good posture is a lifelong needed commitment!
