Applications are open for Food For All's Local Food Access Fund from MWVEG! Anyone in the community who needs help accessing locally grown produce can apply for up to $350 for the summer to use at farmers' markets and farmstands, or to purchase a CSA share.

If you're in our WiseWoman program, we've partnered with Food For All this year to provide a separate fund dedicated to these patients. This fund was made possible by the WiseWoman program to ensure that women with chronic disease have access to fresh produce, regardless of income. So WiseWoman patients are especially encouraged to apply!

We were honored to host Congressman Chris Pappas today, to discuss how recent changes to affordable health insurance options are affecting our patients and our organization.

As people in our area lose coverage through Medicare and Medicaid, and Marketplace and employer plans get more expensive, many rely on our sliding fee scale to fill the gap. That's exactly what it's here for, but it doesn't help with all the healthcare needs people have, like prescriptions and specialist care, and a big shift in sliding fee scale use puts a strain on our finances.

We appreciated the time Congressman Pappas took to hear stories of the stress these changes are putting on our patients and on us, and our hopes and plans to meet more community needs even as we face these challenges. Medical Director Josie Lamb, APRN shared that "since the New Year, we have seen an increase in patients who no longer have insurance who are faced with difficult decisions to forego needed medical care, accrue a crippling amount of debt, or pay out of pocket and not be able to access other necessities due to the high cost of health insurance coverage."

If you have lost your health insurance recently, or are having to ration healthcare due to increased costs, please consider reaching out and sharing your story with us or your elected representatives. When those making decisions understand the effects that new laws have on the communities they represent, they are better able to work to make things better.

To share your story with us, contact Director of Communications Siena Kaplan-Thompson at skaplan@whitemountainhealth.org or (603) 447-8900 x312, or contact your provider through the portal. You can also share your story directly with your representatives through their website.

Just before Christmas, our security system sent out an alert early in the morning, and we arrived to find that a toilet hose had detached and flooded the north side of our building. Water had poured into our basement, damaging our server and the offices downstairs.

Thankfully, insurance will cover most of our losses and MaineHealth Memorial Hospital, who owns our building, is managing the repairs. Basement renovations are underway (pictured here), and repairs to the north side of our building will follow over the next few months.

However, the disruption to our normal workflows is not insignificant, and there are costs that won’t be entirely covered, such as lost productivity and old furniture and equipment that will be much more expensive to replace than they were worth.

To help us with these expenses, we have created an Operations Support Fund. Our deepest appreciation to everyone who has already contributed. If you haven’t, please consider a donation to help us with these ongoing costs. You can donate here https://www.whitemountainhealth.org/donate or by mailing a check to 298 White Mountain Highway, Conway, NH 03818.

“Our staff responded immediately and with tremendous professionalism to ensure patients continued to receive care,” said Executive Director Audrey Goudie. “This fund will help us restore full operations as quickly as possible while protecting access to care during the recovery.”
