💤💤💤 Sensory tip! 💤💤💤

Weighted blankets provide deep pressure that calms the nervous system.
It is easier for kids with sensory processing difficulties to relax and fall asleep when their nervous system isn't on high alert.

This week we were thrilled to present on behalf of Therapy Monkey and HorsePlay Therapy at the Medical Sciences OT department in honor of Women's History Month.

We went over the course of professional development from OT student to workplace, business owner to non-profit start ups...sprinkling tidbits of advice along the way for our future OTs!

We LOVE sharing about what we do and what sets us apart, and also meeting some wonderful people. Thank you for having us!

Core strength is the foundation for so many everyday skills!

A strong core helps kids sit upright at school, maintain balance during play, and use their hands more effectively for writing and fine motor tasks.

Building core strength supports better posture, coordination, and confidence in both learning and play. Shout out to all the amazing PTs building that core so kids can live their best lives!

Did you know HOW we swing kids matters?

LINEAR swinging (forward/backward or side to side) helps
💥kids organize
💥calm
💥 great for overwhelmed, overstimulated, or worked up kids

ROTARY swinging (spinning, pendulum, wrecking ball type 🤣)
💥creates more energy
💥jump starts alertness
💥great for kids who need a little more pep and energy boost
💥not-so-ideal for kids already full of energy

Overall, swinging provides intense vestibular and proprioceptive input to help calm, stimulate, regulate, and improve body awareness...we see the best results when we intentionally swing before table top or focus-heavy activities!
