This week the young men were asked to reflect on the relationships modeled before them growing up. The gears were turning tonight as a large number of the guys were already dating, or considering dating. They were encouraged to delay dating to focus primarily on schooling and extracurricular activities. They discussed lessons learned from those who already were and the importance of having and maintaining healthy boundaries when dating.

Instead this week the young men were asked to look at the maternal and female influences in their lives to see how they may have or maybe impacting their life. Tonight’s group was all about stepping into main character energy and understanding what can get in the way, like anxiety, depression, negative self-talk, and body image. 💅🏽✨

We had real conversations, shared honestly, and started defining what “HER” looks like for each of them. Proud of these girls for showing up and doing the work. 💛

This week we focused on the teen stressor of preparing for life after high school graduation. It was interesting to see the older teens speak up on how much of a stressor this was and still is for some. We brainstormed as a group to help determine ways to prepare for this transition and lower anxiety. We also compiled a list of resources used to help with this very important decision. It was great seeing our older guys engaged in discussing this to help one another out!

Last night in girls group we talked about friendships — how to recognize healthy friendships, identify red flags, and protect our peace. The girls shared honestly about the ups and downs of friendships and practiced what it looks like to be both a good friend and to choose friends who treat them with respect. So proud of these girls for showing up with honesty and courage in the conversation. 💛
